As a previous post said you need to match the socket number and the motherhboard (techies call it the mainboard) needs to be able to support the processor upgrade read the owner manual for you computer if you have a copy if not download a digital copy and either use the software to read it or print the manual then read the printout. I have my motherboard manual it says that I can run a Pentium III class processor with a maximum clock speed of 800 megahertz and will support upto a gigabyte of SDRAM, as you can tell my equipment is ancient by todays 5.5 gigahertz 16 gigabyte 3G DDR-RAM standard but it runs what I need it to.

I currently run a Pentium II 400 Mhz processor 100 mhz FSB, 288 megs SDRAM, and 7.85 gigs of hdd space. Available upgrades supported upgrades are Pentium III Class 750-800 mhz, Processor, up to a gig of SD-RAM (unbuffered type) and a 25-40 gig hard-drive. For my hardware if I stay with my current motherboard I also can run a 128 meg video card instead of my 32 meg matrox card.
