I'm researching and just wondering if there's really a $90 difference between those "Intel Core 2 Duo" processors..

Here's the deal with processor speed. it only matters when you are doing massive multipart processes. Developers use it when they code and compile, or run queries off of SQL or Oracle databases. Gamers use it when they have significant games that take up a lot of processor power.

The average user, even a moderate gamer, won't notice the difference between any processor over 1.8GHz.

Real noticable speed for most users comes from more RAM or a faster internet connection.

I hope this helps!

The difference could be related to more than clock speed. Check to see what the front side bus speed is for each processor. This will effect the speed of the memory you can install on the system.

Try this link... select the cpus you want to compare http://compare.intel.com/pcc/default.aspx?familyID=1 then click the compare button.

Good hunting.

Not to me. For my 90 bucks there had better be some inherent microprocessor architecture that differs it, from the 'cheaper' version. Like larger pipeline architecture, larger cache, or ability to use it better, etc. A .16GHz increase in processor speed isn't significant enough that you'll realize it.

as long as it is 2.0 or over..

i only see a noticeable difference between 1.6 and 2.0

I would stick with the 2.0

For that price, I would think it just made it to the ok line.

You won't see any difference.
