My DVD drive won't recognize SOME DVDs. I bought 2 new packs of DVDs, one -R and other +R. About 10 out of 30 +R were recognized, and about the same number of -R. What can I do to fix this?

My drive is: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B
Firmware Version: 1823
Capabale of reading/burning: +R,-R,+RW,-RW

It's a trial and error process for this, a lot of the time. Memorex seems to be the brand that my hardware has always worked well with. You've just gotta find a brand that your drive likes to read and write to. Do some searching on the net for compatibility with different brand names, in respect to your specific brand and model of DVD drive. There's usually some great information out there, just a simple search away.

You'll need to experiment with different makes of DVD to find the most reliable. Datawrite is very good.
