I want a new graphics card to use on the computer which I am building with a pentium D processor, i also want directx 10 so I can play crysis with it cos i have windows Vista- a reliable and well known site is ok (not something ebay) but i can't find any in the UK except for microdirect which ain't too reliable. The best option would be a real life shop( not online) or a reAL LIFE SHOP WITH A WEBSITE. If anybody knows any good ones around kingston or New Malden or something it would be great.

I have a great gaming computer, however when I play a simple Tiger Woods game, the monitor shuts down and says its in "DVI Power Saving Mode". The game ends and I have to restart the computer. I have an LG LCD monitor as does my roommate, but this does not happen on his machine. Anyone know why this happens?

I put all my dollars in processor and mobo, as RAM, PSU, DVD and HDD will all be upgraded or will (almost deffinately) expire. If I have time for gaming in teh future, I'll update the video card. Rate my choices...what you'd do differently...whether you'd go with a different format (e.g., agp not pci express, etc).

I am building a new PC and right now I am buying all the parts. For my video card I chose

XFX PVT84JUDF3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16.

I was wondering wether I need to buy an additional power supply for this graphics card.
P.S. If I do, then how many watts does the power supply need to have (min)?

I will be getting a AMD cpu. I am getting a really nice abit mobo in a few days along with a 250 gb hard drive. Should I get the 5200 or 5400. After reading articles in PC Gamer mag. I was scared out of my pants that AMD was the wrong way to go because they had less transistors than Intel by about 2 million. That's a lot. And the fact that they will probably be out dated along with my video card. I am just really frustrated, because AMD won't break the bank but probably won't shoot me far enough in the future to handle the games I want to play. Please note, I AM NOT AN EXTREME GAMER. I play flight sim. sim city 4, halo 1 and eventually 2. But no fear or other games like that. I plan on buy the xfx 8600 gt. It seems like a decent card for what I am doing right? ahahahahahhh. Make me feel good about my AMD decision.

I've got it down to the two choices with a $448 difference, the difference is the processor - AMD or Intel - battery lasts longer on 6400 for some reason, bluetooth option w/6400 (don't know how to use) Wireless network card is Intel Pro on 6400.

I would like to keep this laptop for the 4 years through college, so I don't mind spending the extra $ as long as it's not wasted. I like to have lots of programs running at the same time so the processor is very important. I'm familiar with the intel name & not the AMD. This is my 1st laptop, I have main computer at home, this will be my main computer though during the week when school starts. HELP!!!! PLEASE Need to decide.

I just installed a new motherboard on my computer. It isn't the first time I've done it and I've taken many tech classes so I mostly know what I'm doing. I got all the ahrdware in, no problem. I booted it up, and it would restart just shy of loading the OS. It gave me a boot screen saying Windows encountered an error. I tried puttin it up in safe mode and last known good configuration, but none of that worked. Now I boot it up and all it says is "error loading operating system" before Windows even starts to load.

Any suggestions?

in other hand ,from what I've read the 8500GT accelerates most of the process anyway, something reflected in my CPU load....so which one is worth to buy...X1600 pro or 8500GT
my spec: x2 3800+,2gb ram,200gb hdd, os: windows vista
