the last time i had a problem like this it was down to a faulty maxtor 40gb hard drive (2003) no matter how many times i partitioned and formatted drive(and run xp repair on boot disk), the fault would keep coming back. as the hard drive was only a few weeks old i contacted maxtor direct.(vendor was quite funny because i,d run xp pro on it)
because the drive was still under warranty they replaced it (free delivery) and sent me a 60gb for my trouble.
if your hard drive is under 12mnths old then contact manufacter and see what they can do for you or if it is old treat yourself to a new one because i would hazard a guess that you have bad/not working partitions and that is why it will try to work in safe mode(basic) and then crash as soon as you try and run the full op/system on it.
you 100% need a new/different hard disk drive (trust me), there is no other reason why a op/system will act this way.

Boot from XP CD, type R for repair, C for recovery console, select number 1, if it asks for admin password just hit enter, type fixboot, and press enter, agree to all, after it says successful, restart computer, and there you have it.

Maybe your CPU is overheating. Is your processor fan working?
Or have you ever tried to Overclock your PC? If fan not working get a new one. If you ever tried overclocking your PC, revert back to default setting

Did you try to over clocking your processor. May be your processor is getting heated up. Check whether the exhaust fans are working properly.

momentarily ,shut power off and back on.this works best with a switch on your surge protector.flick the switch from on to off and back on . so as to interupt power not shut off.
once you get it on : start ,RUN , wfs /scannow
wfs(space)/scannow
this will run windows file protection.dont interupt it.
