I'm in this predicament myself since dell limited the XP systems a lot this last little bit. I decided a dual boot was the best option because if you're like me Vista is a temporary compatibility problem and you can't wait for those bug fixes and need a pc now. I actually contacted some different stores and found that Circuit City will do the dual boot for $140 plus XP. I know this sounds steep but its an option. Plus you can find XP pretty cheap if you look around. You can also check dell outlet or small business for Xp and see if they have what you're looking for. I hope this helps.

Yes, but you'll have to wipe the hard drive completely and install XP from scratch, so whatever that a pre-installed copy of Vista costs is just money thrown away.

You can't "downgrade" to XP from a Vista installation.

in order to "roll back" you would have to format your drive and lose all programs that are presently on your computer, and all the data... but if you buy a machine today, have nothing on it, and want xp instead of vista, get an xp disk, format your hard drive and install xp. no sweat.
I don't think xp will install on top of vista as an upgrade.. microsoft doesn't like that! but as one put it, you can make a dual boot, but why bother?? Most commercial installed programs will not run under dual boot systems.. esp the registered ones.
If you have the program cds that you have purchased, or downloaded and registered, you can, but it is quite a chore to save all the data, change operating systems, and reinstall everything..

No.

If you want a dual-boot XP/Vista. you must install XP first and Vista next. Otherwise you won't able to see the right boot menu. Put each OS on a separate partition! Files are different.

Yes, but if the manufacture doesn't support XP, you might have problems loading the drivers, which is the "go-between" of the operating system and the hardware itself. Without them, you won't be able to run critical devices such as modems, network adapters, video cards, etc. Usually by talking to the technical support hotline, they will make it clear it is not supported, but typically give you the links to get the devices to work.

Good luck

If the manufacture supplies all of the hardware drivers for XP and you had a legal copy to put on it. Then yes you could. I would guess that it should work OK.
