I'm doing a project for my computer class and I need some examples of microcomputers and their recent updates.

(And if you have time, the same question, but for Mainframe computers, and supercomputers)

Thank You =)

I have a two year old printer/ scanner/ photocopier/ memory card reader etc, it really is, or was the dogs taters, however it now just beeps at me saying ( in lcd of course ) cannot clean, refer to maintenance, cannot turn off, job not complete.

I have done all the maintenance and troubleshooting above and beyond the norm. If I smash it I will feel an awfull lot better, but am not sure if i'll be able to afford a new one for a couple of weeks.

What do you say.

To smash or not to smash??

the reason i'm asking this question is because i constantly notice people at work touching computer screens. these are regular monitors, not CRT or LCD or whatever. i think i know that it may cause your monitor to short out after so long after touching it repeatedly?

i would like to e-mail my supervisors to let them know that it's not good to be constantly touching the screen and i need reasons why. i tried searching the internet and i really come up with nothing.

I had an older computer that died on me. My brother gave me his computer tower (b/c he's got his laptop) but not the monitor, keyboard and mouse, as a replacement. Shortly after I hooked up my "new" computer to my old setup, the monitor would not display. It had power but no display. I took it to my other brother who was able to restore the monitors original settings and now the monitor works. Problem is, the USB ports don't accept any input. I had to buy a ps/3 mouse/keyboard setup b/c of it. I can't connect my printer, download music to my ipod, nothing. My bro thinks that the USB ports are fried and thus beyond salvage. I don't know. Can you fry USB ports? Wouldn't something else be affected also? Is there any way to rememdy the problem, short of buying a new computer?

My Dell Latitude D600's processor died and the computer will not turn on. I tried removing the hard drive from the computer and the carrier and using it on an Inspirson 1150, and although I could view the files, I could not save any to a cd. I just received a new Latitude D620, but the hard drive from my old computer won't fit into the new one- the prongs don't match up. I did not really want to go to the Geek Squad and have them remove my files- I have personal things on there- and I don't have access to another laptop. What should I do? How else could I get the files (word, pictures, music) off of the hard drive??? PLEASE HELP!

I have a dell laptop. Just recently, the monitor screen gets really really dark but I can still see some of my desktop and other stuff. It looks like the computer is shut off, but its just the screen that just turns really dark. Every time it does this, I have to reboot and when it starts back up, in about 5-10 minutes, it goes to the same very dark screen. What could be causing this? How can I fix this?

I need to know if any computer companies ever made a Serial Port for a laptop to use internet on; a serial to ISP-preferably, a LAN or any high speed connections; Dial up would also be ok. If anyone knows a brand or a reference for searching to buy one.
Thank you for your time!

Howdy. I bought a usb/midi keyboard (ill be using usb) to use with my band. I just use it to play weird sounds, etc. in a live setting. If I want to patch my computer into my PA system (so I can be HEARD, haha) how would I do this with a X-fi Xtreme Music pci card? Would I do this:
1) plug usb/midi into comp
2)plug instrument cable (w/ attached 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor) into line/out of X-fi card
3) plug other end of instrument cable into PA System's mixer

????

Wanna make sure that would be ok. I know it would work...but is there a better alternative? Or do i need a "buffer" or something? I dont want to fry/break anything on my computer.
