the reason i'm asking this question is because i constantly notice people at work touching computer screens. these are regular monitors, not CRT or LCD or whatever. i think i know that it may cause your monitor to short out after so long after touching it repeatedly?

i would like to e-mail my supervisors to let them know that it's not good to be constantly touching the screen and i need reasons why. i tried searching the internet and i really come up with nothing.

Valid concern!

Monitors covered by glass might be ok to touch, but they are getting rare.

I have been told that touching a computer screen deposits acids from our natural body oils that degrades the screen after a while.

Either way, finger smudges make the screen dirty and its a pain to clean!!

You seem to be bothered by others touching their screens. There is no reason for you to intrude into their habits - what difference does it make to you anyway? If you don't like to touch your screen, you don't. Why try to impose your values or lifestyle on others?

FYI, there is absolutely no adverse effect or consequence in touching any screen, CRT, Flatscreen, or LCD. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

Go into a corner and mind your own business, lady.

there really is no reason you can't do this, if it's an LCD you can ruin the crystals by touching it, but if your saying that they are using CRT monitors(looks like a tv) there is nothing wrong with that

You really ought to mind your own business. You're just trying to start trouble at work and rat on your co-workers.

Your own message says it all...
"i would like to e-mail my supervisors to let them know that it's not good to be constantly touching the screen and i need reasons why. i tried searching the internet and i really come up with nothing."

You don't even know for sure ....and you can't even prove... that what they're doing is harmful ..and yet your first instinct is to rat on them.

I'm glad that I don't have to work with you.

theres no technical problem with touch the screen but a dirty monitor. Sounds like they are too close to the screen and that may cause other problems.

It's really nothing to worry about....I wouldn't bother your boss with this....unless its an LCD monitor and they press hard enough to damage pixels, but I would focus on bigger issues in life, things more important than people touching computer monitors! :)

nuthin bad at doing that except for the fingerprints you leave that eventually can cause the user to have vision problems due to the wrong reflection of the light coming out. Anyways I wouldn't bother my boss with such a stupid thing it would look I'm trying to impress them

If it's a regular monitor (like the old televisions), then touching it does absolutely nothing. Sorry. HOWEVER, don't touch them with magnets, and if you do, degauss your monitor.

If it's a regular computer monitor, I think it should be fine. I touch, hit, slap, shake, etc mine all the time LOL and it's still fine.
