I have a Dell PC with HArmon/ Kardon speakers. These have worked fine for a many years until last week. I have checked all the mutes, the cables and they all say that they are playing. I still can't hear it. The only thing i can think of is that the GeekSquad guy came last week and cleaned off some spyware but that is all. HELP????

problem with your soundcard, if they speakers use standard stero connection, u could plug the speakers into something like a mp3/cdplayer and see if you can get music via that, and then you know if its the speakers.
if they work ok then its either an issue with your windows or the sound card i would advise uninstall all your soundcard software and then reinstall the software this should fix the problem.

hope this helps

Check the settings on your media player, you may have muted the sound on it. If the sound card is on board, try reloading the drivers for it from the mobo manufacturer's web site. Don't use GEEK SQUAD they will cause you more problems, find an independent computer shop.

if this geeky guy was playing around with your pc he may have done something to your sound card drivers, i'd start by uninstalling the drivers for the sound card, rebooting and letting the thing reinstall itself to do this go to start menu, right click my computer then go to device manager scroll down to your sound controllers double click that, when you've opened that you will see a drivers tab click this and then click uninstall, (if the pc asks you to delete software DO NOT, you might have a job finding it again and the drivers wont reinstall when you re boot) you will then be asked to re boot, when you do the drivers will reinstall themselves. try that if you are still having problems your speakers themselves have something wrong with them but from what you've said this doesent seem to be the case

If i-tunes works then you do not have a hardware problem.

Audio and video require CODECs to decode the data stream, maybe your GeekSquad guy deleted some of those CODECs.
