Hey guys, my old laptop's motherboard got fried, but I'm fairly certain the monitor still works. I was able to salvage the hard drive, but I have no idea how to separate the laptop screen from the body, let alone wire it up to where it'll work with my current laptop. Please help me out with some tips or give me some good links where I can research this stuff!! ^__^ thanks!

I have one, and so does my dad. I got it 3 years ago, and it started screwing up 2 1/2 years ago--so did my dads'. We have even both sent ours to get it fixed and gateway does a HORRIBLE job with that..they don't fix it permenantely, and they don't tell you what they did to it. They just send you a slip and tell you they "fixed it". And, really bad customer service.

i get probably about 5 device driver errors a day that causes my computer to shut down( blue screen of death) i've come to get used to this, but it's still a pain, and my computer is REALLY slow. It says there is low disk drive space all the time, but i checked the harddrive, and there isn't. My dad's computer constantly gets overheated and shuts down randomly.

I wish i never got a gateway. I should have gotten a sony again...my sony lasted 5 years years of hardcore use in college.

Does anyone agree with this about gateway?

I have a computer that was purchased a looong time ago. It features a CD-ROM drive, a CD-R Burner drive, and a Floppy drive. Well, I now want to start using flash keys. Would it be possible to buy a new port and install it into my tower so I can use them? Where could I find?

I just built a pretty decent computer. e6400 Core2Duo CPU, XFX 7950GT, 2GB Ram, running on Win XP Pro. I am thinking of buying another 2GB of Ram to make a total of 4GB because I found a good deal for 2GB Ram for only $100. The only problem is I'm not sure if it's worth it, since I think 2GB shoud be enough to handle all the applications these days. Is upgrading to 4GB really going to increase any performance on my computer, or would it be just a waste?

I am thinking about buying a new system with an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ CPU with 1000Mhz FSB (2000 MT/s). The motherboard supports DDR2 RAM. What speed of RAM should I get to match the CPU? Is it the same deal as with DDR RAM? I have lost track of the speed matches with the dual cores and whatnot coming out now...how does it work now?

I've been wanting a new graphic card for a while, but I need some info. My desktop is a Gateway 510x.

1. Is there a specific graphic card for this desktop or no?
2. Is there a way to find out if it's VGA or PCI?
3. If there isn't a specific graphic card, would an NVIDIA work?

I have more questions, but for now this is all I want to know.

I am considering getting a Dell E228WFP 22" LCD monitor. Its native resolution is 1680x1050 pixels. Unfortunately, my graphics card (dual 7800GTXs in SLI) do not support that resolution natively. The only other resolution that is supported by my graphics card with the same aspect ratio is 1280x800. I have two questions: 1) Will the LCD look decent with non-native resolution? and 2) Would it be possible to use a resolution with a slightly different aspect ratio like 1900x1200?

I have convinced my parents to buy me a brand new Mac for my birthday coming up at the end of May. I'm a graphic designer so while I have a full time job I would like to start doing freelance on the side and don't have the resources to do it right now. What I'm wondering is if anyone could share and problems or good experiences you have with the different computers.

The iMac comes with an Intel Core Duo Processor. Is this a better choice than say Unix?

Are there any designers out there that can give me any imput as to what I would need to start out doing freelance besides the obvious programs?

Any advice at all on what kind of Mac you think I should get would be great! Thanks!

I'm now using vibra 64 soundcard together with creative cambridge soundworks sw310 speaker and it sounds not bad. But recently i planned to upgrade my soundcard to x-fi extreme music for much better sound quality but still remain using the same speaker. I'm much more serious on listening to music than any other applications. so, is it worth to upgrade? And will my speaker compatible and perform well with the x-fi soundcard?

My computer has been playing up lately. I have formatted and reinstalled and repaired and its still dodgy. I checked my event viewer and theres loads of errors. I think the jumper settings may have been wrong, could this be the cause? I checked online for the settings for my HDD (Samsung HD400LJ and HD401LJ and they are not very clear. If anyone knows the settings please let me know. And what else do you think could be wrong with the drives?
