You can try all this stuff people are saying but the fact of the matter is that after its all said and done your not going to have an enjoyable experience with your computer because Windows XP is too demanding of your computer. You should go back to another (older) operating system. I mean you can stick with XP but your constantly going to be restarting your computer due to crashes and errors. This is going to be a real big headache for you. May I suggest Windows 98 or Windows 2000. 300Mhz is just too slow. I would not attempt it with anything slower than an 833Mhz with 128 megs of ram.

It will run but it won't run very good. 64 mb isn't enough RAM to run XP smoothly. There will be a lot of data swapping to disc as XP will use the hard drive for virtual memory since it won't have enough standard memory to store temporary data. That will slow the system WAY down. RAM is cheap nowadays. Go get 256 or, better yet, 512 :o)

Your PC is not powerfull enoght, you can upgrade your PC but it would probably cost you more to do that than to buy a new or second hadn PC.Things to look for in a PC. A P111 of P4 with at least a 1Gig ram memory, this is impotatint as it's this memory that helps run your programs. Next a good size HD say an 80Gig preferably a PC without onboard sound and graphics and possably with an ethnet connection and USB ports. If however you want to upgrade your existion PC here are a few tips you can do to get more room on your HD and at the same time speed your pc up a bit. MY COMPUTER/ WINDOWS/CURSORS, in there you will fild lots of little icons. delete the first two lines the third line will have a black arrow on the end and another one somewhere in the middle. leave that line in but delete all the others below it. now come out of there and look for a folder called SYSTEM32 this is where you need to be careful look for a folder called OOBE open that folder and look for another folder called IMAGES, delete all that is in that folder lots of pics, come out of there and look for a folder in the same block called MOUSE open that folder and look for another folder called IMAGES delete all the pics in there. now back to your desktop. empty bin. back to WINDOWS where you have just been and find a folder called PREFETCH delete all that is in that folder. back to desktop empty bin and restart PC. MY computer again but this time right click and open Propertys the box at the botton of the dropdaow folder this will open a box with a pie chart in it and a lable with clean disk click this and clean the disk. thats it your PC should be a liottle faster now and have a little more HD space.

I am amused how you managed to run xp on a PII 300 MHZ + 64 MB RAM. Do what is being asked this will help you a lot.
First of all increase your virtual memory or page file size open control panel double click system folder on opening page click advanced than Tick before Adjust for best performance & click apply(it will take a while). Than click advanced in coming window you will find virtual memory click setting. Select drive on which you want your virtual memory to be.Choose other than primary partion, then click custom and change the Page file size or virtual memory size by typing.
Initial size should be 1024 MB at least & max size should be not less than 2048 MB.
1. Search for temp files( In search box type *.tmp) click search. Delete all files that appears after search.
2. Than as above type *.log & do the same.
3. Search Temp folder Delete all it's content.
4. Search Temprory Internet Files & delete it's content.
5. Run updated Antivirus & Anti spyware.
6. Run disk cleanup from system tools in accessories.
7. Than defragment your drives twice from system tools Defrag.
8. From run type msconfig > enter > click on startup un check all checked field except of antivirus & anti spyware. Choose & click services, Check beside hide all MS Services. In remaining list uncheck all except Anti virus & Anti spyware services click apply click ok you will asked to restart click restart. You are almost done.
This will make your system considerably faster but one very essential action has to be taken and that is cleaning Registry which is the main reason of sluggis system. Dowload
WIN XP Manager or tuneup utilities install & clean. Try with win xp manager,s 1 click cleaner. You can download it from
www.softarchive.net. It requires dotnet fx so you will have to download it also. First you will have to install dotnet fx. It is free & you can get it from site of microsoft. Your PC will become as fast as it was when new or a bit better.

I can't believe you were able to install Windows XP below the minimum requirements. Instead of buying a new computer, upgrade your processor to at least 800mhz and your RAM to 256MB. You could save the housing, CD drive, USB port or even your hard disk. Best is <1 ghz and <256 RAM.

64 MB RAM is not enough for XP; 256 MB to 1 GB is preferred.
All the ram in the world will not help you, a 300MHz PII is too slow for XP; I consider 1 Ghz the minimum processor speed you should consider using with XP.

thats an old computer. If you can afford it i would recommend you getting a new computer.
however if you cant afford one just yet
heres your solution:
Your problem is due to very low memory you need to add more memory to your computer atleast 512MB of Sdram.
Here are some good sites where you can purchase memory
www.mwave.com
www.newegg.com
www.acortech.com
