You cannot defrag your modem. If you want to defrag your hard drive, just click Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter

You don't defrag a modem, you defrag a hard drive.

To defrag an HD, go to My Computer and right-click your hard drive. Choose Properties from the pop-up menu. Go to the Tools tab, and click the "Defragment Now" button.

If your modem is dying, just replace it. A new dial-up modem costs about $20. Replacing it is just a matter of opening the case, taking out the old modem, and putting in the new one. Windows should automatically recognize the new modem the next time you start the computer.

If the modem is built into the motherboard, it gets a little more complicated because you then need to tell the computer to stop recognizing the built-in modem to make way for a new one. Dell Support should have instructions for this, or, if you prefer, just take the machine to a shop and they should be able to do it without much trouble.

You can't defrag a modem... you can frag one. Or maybe you can, with a steamycl3aner.

Anyway, 'optiplex' isn't a modem, it's a Dell computer.

Go into Windows explorer, right click the 'C' drive and select 'tools' -> 'defragment' should work on most versions of windows as long as you have the relevant bits installed.

as the other answers mentioned a modem cannot be defragged, however i presume you mean your hard drive
go to start>programs>accesories>system tools>disk defragmenter>then highlight the c drive and click defraggment at the bottom
depending on how fragmented your drive is will determine how long it will take to complete this task,on some p.cs it can take all night,so best run it overnight when you are not using your p.c
you will notice the improvement in speed of your p.c,as defragging sorts your system files out into a more readable form so the hard drive takes less time to access data
i recommend you defrag your hard drive at least once a month for optimal performance
good luck!

yeah... modems don't get defragmented. You'd need to do that to your hard drive. But if your internet is running slow, you might want to delete all your temporary files and whatnot.
