I need much more USB bandwith than my motherboard provides, but they're all the internal type connectors. How can I increase the bandwith and number of ports? (I have free PCI slots)

I just bought a new laptop yesterday, it was the last one of this model the store had and off the shelf ex-display. The laptop had been plugged in while they did a settings restore and than I plugged it in when I went to use it 1st time, later when I went to another room and it said battery power was only 40%. I than plugged it in for about 4 hours last night before putting it to stand-by mode. When checked the battery level this morning it was again 40% even though it had been plugged in for about 30-40mins. I have now been charging it for close to 2 hours and its only 46% - is there something wrong with the battery cause I dont remember my other laptops being this slow to recharge, should I take it back to the store?

I got a video editing program for Christmas. The issue is that the captured video files eat up a ton of hard drive space. Is getting an external hard drive to store my video captures a good solution?

I have purchased my dream computer for a whopping Rs.60,000 [apprx. £770]. I have installed a RAM of 1GB capacity after I was told a high capacity RAM improved PC performance, especially if the PC involved high-end gaming. I thought I could play loads of games and hence went for 1GB RAM.

However, being a novice in computing, I haven't been able to find signs of improved PC performance for the sake of self satisfaction. Could anyone help and explain to me where to look for changes with a 1GB RAM ?

PS: No funny answers please.

From the computer being COMPLETELY off, when I hit the power button the power light never turns green. It stays orange (which is the color of Standby Mode - for a Gateway). The fans work, the CD drives flash their lights, but the keyboard/mouse/monitor don't register because the computer isn't really "on". Does anyone have a fix for this? Does anyone have an idea what this could be? I have made NO memory/device/driver changes in the last year. I would love to know how to turn the computer on - is there a "manual" powerup option?

Thanks for any help!

I have a dell demension 8100 running a intel Pentium 4 with Windows XP -sp2. It has started locking up when loading personal settings. I can start up the computer in safe mode and have run a virus check, defrag, and clean disk and even restored to earlier date. This happened before and I reformatted the hard drive about a month ago. Now its happening again. Any suggestions??? Could this be a hardware problem??
