From the computer being COMPLETELY off, when I hit the power button the power light never turns green. It stays orange (which is the color of Standby Mode - for a Gateway). The fans work, the CD drives flash their lights, but the keyboard/mouse/monitor don't register because the computer isn't really "on". Does anyone have a fix for this? Does anyone have an idea what this could be? I have made NO memory/device/driver changes in the last year. I would love to know how to turn the computer on - is there a "manual" powerup option?

Thanks for any help!

Good feedback so far, thanks. The orange light is actually the Power Button on the tower.

The monitor won't come on, neither will the mouse or keyboard, because the computer isn't completely booting up. Its just turning on in Standby Mode (and the fans and disk drives are doing something too). ...

It depends on what light you are referring to. Is the light located on the display (CRT, LCD) or on the unit where the keyboard and mouse connect to?

If the light is on the display and is orange it normally means "no signal" regardless of whether the computer is in StandBy mode or not.

The problem could be with the display or with the video adapter inside of the unit where the keyboard and mouse plug into. You'll need to test the display on another computer or take it to a service shop to rule out the display. If the display is good, you'll have to take the computer into a service shop.

Computer Stuck In Sleep Mode

If you completely shut the system down and then restart does you monitor function correctly?

If it does check the power settings in the control panel. If it is set to standby mode change it. I have seen this many times where standby mode does not always function like it is supposed to. Then see if you have the same problems. If not then that is what the problem was. If it does then there is something else. Good Luck.

Sometimes PCS get stuck in standby mode...
Many computer companies distribute BIOS updates which fix issues with computers not returning from sleep mode...

#1 Hold down the power button on your computer for 5-10 seconds, this will shut it off completely.

#2 Turn it back on, if button still stays orange, 1 of 2 possible things has happened...

Either 1, Something is wrong with your graphics as the guy above stated, usually moniter light stays orange if it cannot detect a signal... Or 2, you need to reset your computers BIOS settings, to do that you will need to actually open up the computer, and switch a certian jumper (little blue plastic thing sticking on the motherboard very small) to reset your bios...

MOST CERTIANLY if you shut your pc OFF by holding down the power button or unplugging it, and you turn it back on and see ORANGE light, MOST CERTIANLY it is not asleep, computer never resumes sleep mode once you have shut it off, so it is something else...

You will need to update your BIOS once you get it up and running so it wont happen again...

To update your bios you will need to go to your pcs manufacturing site and see the updates for it, under BIOS your update will be listed.

For example, if you have Hp go to www.hp.com and look for your make and model of computer. Follow instructions on BIOS update strictly, or you will screw over your computer.

unplug it, then plug it back in. hold the power button for at least a minute or two. if that doesn't turn on, it could be your power supply. but you say the cd drive flashes it lights? do you have your pc plugged into a surge protector that has a bunch of other stuff plugged in as well? if so, does anything else have a problem coming on? did you have a storm in the area recently? you can send me a message or you can try calling your computer manufacturer. good luck!
