Iam going to install windows me on my dell latitude 266xt notebook computer. This laptop has no disk drive but it has a cd rom drive. Iam having to put a new hard drive inside the laptop as well. Would i have to have the boot disk or just windows me cd with the product key with it?

Here's the situation. I recently bought a new old laptop (Gateway Solo 2100 120MHz Pentium, 72 MG of RAM) off of eBay. It had no hard drive. I bought a 5 GB hard drive. I wanted to put in Win 98. I put in a 98 boot disk, loaded the system files and formatted the drive. Then I saw the system requirements for 98 and thought it wouldn't work too well. I then put in a 95 boot disk and nothing happens so I physically erase the files that I can see when use a dir command, which were command.com and scandisk log. I put in the 95 boot disk again and then it says "type command interpreter". I typed in a few hundred commands but nothing works, the message just comes back up on the next line. The floppy drive makes a duh duh duh in a rythmic pattern when I type in a command(unlike my desktop PC which works fine). I also try my 95 system disk in the cd drive but still nothing. Is nothing happening because my floppy drive (or media bay) stopped working or did I mess up and need to get a new hard drive? Are the hidden system files causing this problem?

Note: I changed the boot process in the BIOS to A: then C:. It will try to read the floppy (I can tell because of the noise) but nothing happens (same with the cd) and then goes to the 98 splash screen and then the command interpreter error.

If I put a file on the trash and empty the trash does it mean that the file is erase from the computer. In other words it doesn't exist anymore, for example in a PC you would go to control panels and remove the file and automatically would be remove. So by putting the file to the trash and emptying the trash would automatically delete the file from the hardrive. I am a new user on Mac and need help.

The enter key on my dell inspiron popped off for seemingly no reason whatsoever and I can't get it back on. Its got a thin piece of wire that fits into too small holes, but when I slide them back in it still wiggles and eventually comes off again. Does anyone know how to re-attach them?

The scanjet 3200c has 2 parallel ports on the back ... one to plug it into the computer and one to pass on to the printer ... it is all hooked up correctly and the printer will NOT respond when hooked through the scanner ... if I take the cables off the scanner and hook them together then the printer will work ... but not when both are hooked through the scanner , what can i do?

The movie will launch for a few seconds than the slider progress bar stops but you can still hear the audio and then a few seconds after that the whole system locks up. If you pause the video for a few seconds then play it again you can see a few more seconds of video till it happens again.
I have tried everything to fix the problem. At this point I have a fresh install of windows, updated all my drivers and the PC is virus free but it still doesn't work. I am sure it is a hardware problem at this point but not sure what. When the problem happens the fans becomes loud and my CPU usage shoots to 100%.
Has anyone ever had this problem and do you think I need a new fan or power supply or what. Please don't tell me I need more ram or a better graphic card. It's also not Viruses or codex's or drivers. If you have seen this problem exactly and know what the problem is let me know, I really need help!

i see on ebay there are many different types of arctic silver. which one is the best one to get. there are many kinds like compound, adhesive, surface purifier. what is the difference between all these and what is the best for my CPU. i'm thinking arctic silver 5 thermal paste will be the best but i'm not sure.

I have an old Dell laptop which runs Windows98. I last used it 2 months ago and it was fine. Now when I turn it on it reads "no hard drive". I put in the recovery CD and it says "Setup can not continuue. It does not have a hard drive, your HD is not functioning properly or your missing a special device driver.

I have no idea how to check or test a hard drive. Dell's support does not support this 8 year old PC.

Any idea's appreciated

Hey, I am going to build a computer with a NZXT LEXA-NP Black/ Silver case...My question is should I get Black or White/silver? CD drives? I cant find a pic with the front pannel open. Also, is it roomy enough inside for 2 nVidia 8800GTX cards inside? Thanks!
Its a Mid-tower ATX but that doesnt matter. I just want to know what color drives will match the oustide cover UNDER the silver front pannel
