Arctic Silver 5 has consistently been shown to lower temps by around 3 degrees. Nothing too major, but when you are overclocking that can translate into a higher overclockability. Arctic Silver 5 is what you want, it is a thermal compound, which means it just acts as a thermal grease. An adhesive actually functions just as it sounds, it actually adheres (glues basically) the heatsink to the processor, not something you probably want unless you never plan on changing heatsink or processor. Surface purifier is used to remove old thermal grease, or oils/dirt from the heatsink and processor. This is used in conjunction with a thermal compound, the purpose of the surface purifier is too simply give you a perfectly clean surface to apply the compound to.

i dont use it myself ... its electrically conductive and if u get it on the wrong thing it can cause problems ... its also messy as hell ... and ive built many pcs, overclocked, and overvolted to the sky ... monitored them to death with all sorts of configurations and to the best of my ability to tell, ANY modern cpu heatsink compound will yield about the same results down to immeasurable levels ... if u feel like spending 15 bucks on a dab of arctic silver will make u feel better go for it ... and the people that claim 10-20 degree drops in temps using it are inexperienced or outright lying ...the ONLY thing that matters is using some form of compound, the size of the sink, and how much air gets to it .... period.

go away the CPU interior the motherboard's CPU socket. Take some cotton or a sparkling rag, prepare some rubbing alcohol or fingernail polish remover and soak on it, then sparkling each and all of the previous thermal paste off of the CPU and heatsink... Then prepare a dab of the thermal paste on the middle of the CPU die, then use a credit card to unfold the thermal paste like butter, gently around the finished die...

Arctic silver is so old now in fairness it was good in its day however there is better out there and I believe for less cost too. Products from Gelid, Shin-Etsu, Cool Labs, Innovation Cooling and even from Coolermaster usually yield better results than AS5 and better bang for buck too.
