It relies upon what's inaccurate with the force. Does it nevertheless spin? Or is the OS damaged? Or is it merely an challenge of to a lot undesirable-blocks on it. In worst case challenge, you may consistently get better the information... as lengthy you've money the pay the organization who recovers the disk. sensible: purchase the recent disk, connect it and shipment the recent OS on it. Than connect the "damaged" troublesome-force as a slave and take a verify out to mount it. (the above really works if the force nevertheless spins). There are different opportunities, alongside with replacing the case or the hands, etc... yet you want to understand your way round.

The best way would be to get the hardware utility for the brand of hard drive for best results. For instance, I know Seagate SeaTools allows you to copy the files and then repartition the drive.
You can always use the OS utilities but, from my experience, it's always best to use the manufacturers utilities, usually freely available at their company site or driver sites.

Back up everything and re-fdisk your PC with one partition. This will require a total reinstall of all software. All data not backup will be lost.
