Sounds like the modem itself is getting hot. That would be the most practical assumption. You are using actually landline dial up and not an air card, correct? If so, then I would say it's the modem itself getting hot. Depending on the model and if it's under warranty, you should have tech look at it in case there is a fan that isn't functioning properly. I use my laptop as my desktop- it's docked, but using broadband and it's never ever turned off, and I've never had it overheat.

There must be a problem with the internal modem. Try using an external one.

Sounds like a hardware profile change. Do you have a separate hardware profile for Dialup, and a profile for Broadband?
Thats all I can think of that would be that specific.

How do you know its overheating? And even at that, it should not be overheating if it has a proper cooling system. You need to get something checked out.....maybe the dialup modem is over heating, i really dunno what else it could be.
