The scanjet 3200c has 2 parallel ports on the back ... one to plug it into the computer and one to pass on to the printer ... it is all hooked up correctly and the printer will NOT respond when hooked through the scanner ... if I take the cables off the scanner and hook them together then the printer will work ... but not when both are hooked through the scanner , what can i do?

Sounds like it might be an IRQ conflict, or the printer is just not happy about being relegated to second fiddle (with computers, nothing surprises me).

They do sell parallel port switches, so you could plug one parallel cable into the port, and set the switch to an A or a B position, indicating the printer or the scanjet.

If you want two parallel devices, that is the best option, or actually, even better, just install a parallel port via a PCI card.
