I have a really crummy DVD player, but my laptop will play dvds. There is no S-video output on my laptop, but there is a 1394 4-pin firewire hub. Is there a way to use this for an output?

I read the post and they are a bit hard to understand....

Firewire to RCA cable = NO (As one mentioned firewire is digital and RCA and ananlog)

Firewire to Media Convertor Box and RCA between the convertor box and the device = YES.....This will work....

You can buy the media convertor box at most stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City and others.... An example (although not a real good example) is see below:

Firewire is a interface similar to USB. Does you computer have any video outputs, like the HD15? There is an adapter for that to s-video available at http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/component/vgatocomponent.htm. I do not know. Major stores should sell something similar to that.

Video has an excellent variety of tips. So the relationship might desire to be quickly adequate else not all tips will transported (ensuing in lacking frames, sound being off sync and so on). USB isn't quickly adequate. subsequently video from dv tapes is often transferred with Firewire. firewire to USB is likewise not achieveable because of the fact USB demands something that sends the tips (so the digital camera needs to deliver it) yet firewire would not require something from the containing device, your computer might desire to get it. (even with the certainty that this clarification is a hundred% maximum suitable, that is actual that usb and firewire makes use of diverse strategies of moving data, which could't be purely converted with a changing piece). so which you will possibly desire to function a firewire card.

In one other answer no not without a converter from fire wire to svideo, unless you buy a video capture card. I have 5 Capture cards and all are ATI, If you want more information on this VIsit the ATI web site and they have some answers for you and some hardware that might do the trick.
