A GB = gigabyte and refers to how much available storage space on a storage drive, such as a hard drive or thumb drive, or it can refer to how much memory a computer has
Well this is a question that has two different answers and has caused some problems for microsoft and drive manufacturers
microsoft uses a diferent scale than drive manufactures
1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes
1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes
drive manufactures use the scale
1 kilobyte = 1000 bytes
1 megabyte = 1000 kilobytes
1 gigabyte = 1000 megabytes
this is why when you by a drive that says it has 160 gigabytes it shows up as less available space in widows and has led to lawsuits

GB is an abbreviation of Gigabyte. It is used to describe the amount of storage space a computer has (hard drive) and in modern computers also it can be used for the amount of memory (RAM).
Roughly it is about 1000 megabytes (MB) or 1,000,000,000 bytes.
For a good illustration of the amount of information that can be held in a GB or most other common sizes there is a good website located here:

GB stands for gigabytes, and refers to the amount of space in memory, usually on your hard drive installed in your computer. Giga means one million, and therefore gigabyte is one million bytes. One byte is eight bits, or approximatley eight characters, or letters, of type.

It means "GigaByte". It is the way you measure how much information a computer can hold in any given device. Specifically, a gigabyte equals 100 MegaBytes.

Gigabyte. it's a one of measure scale for a byte.
1 charachter = A,B,C,a,b,c,(space),(return) and etc
1 byte = +/- 8 character
+/-100 byte = 1Kb (kilobyte)
+/-1000 Kbyte = 1Mb (Megabyte)
+/-1000 Mbyte = 1Gb (Gigabyte)
+/-1000 Gbyte = 1Tb (Tetabyte)
