Hardware - January 2007

I am using a Acer laptop with Win XP Pentium M-processor 1400 Mhz with 512MB ram. No other application was run except IE when I view youtube. When I stream it in my desktop with only Pentium 386, it runs very smoothly and they share the same bandwide from the router.

i lost the disc so went back to Curry store where i bought it for a spare one but the staff there say they have no spare disc and ask me to download from lexmark.co.uk .....but been browsing for hours and seems lexmark.co.uk has nothing about downloading the software..

Wireless connection....works fine with AC power. The second I disconnect and go to battery power, my connection speeds drop to almost nothing. Pages will not load etc.... I am in the same room and have tried connecting solely with battery power and starting with AC and then disconnecting the AC. Always the same result. Any Suggestions out there???????????

My computer came with a 4 conductor cable for modem, it wasn't long enough so I bought a longer one. The longer one is only 2 conductors. Does this make a difference as far as speed goes? I used to use the 4 but I moved my desk and now need the longer one. It just seems slower than it used to be. Thanks

I always wondered if my computer monitor can stay on.. It says no sync and makes a noise and goes in standby? Do i still have to use the power switch to put it off?? I always wondered maybe for 10 years and now i ask ? funny lol

I get an excelent signal 4-5 bars and all the sudden i lose connectiong for a quick minute then it reconects only to happen again. Eventually i get a good connection and it stays all good for awhile but its really frustrating it never use to do this when i first got my laptop im thinking maybe my wireless card is weakening but i never moved the computer from its place or hit the laptop.

I have a 3 month old computer and my friend (hes really into all this technology stuff, im not) said that my computer deskstop was dirty and cluttered. So I took off the case, took out all the parts (i dont kno what he was talking about they looked clean to me) and scrubbed the with fantastic and a wire brush till i was sure they were clean. I put it all back together and now it wont start, can anybody help me?????

I have a really old Emachines that has Windows 98. Will this work on it I just want to use it once to get the map of a game I have made in RPG Maker 2003 that is too big to use a floppy to transfer and my computer's internet is too slow to transfer it on the internet so a CD-Burner seems to be the only way to do it but I tried to put a graphics card in my new computer last year and there was all htis AGP PCI PCI Express stuff I had no idea what i was doing are CD Burners that complicated too?

I got a scanner a while back like it says in the heading its a one touch 9320 USB and I have had it unplugged, now I want to scan some pictures and I cant find the cd and it wont let me install or atleast I dont know how, can anyone help me? Thanks for any help : )

i have an older Dell, and the hard drive is filled with useless junk.I am unable to delete a lot of it for various reasons, and I just want to start over. also, it musta come with windows ME, but xp is installed. I have all the original cd's that came with the computer to reinstall drivers and the windows ME. Do i just reformat the hard drive, and restart with the operating system disk in the cd drive? and will i have to put the original video card back in, instead of the Nvidia that i installed last year? whatever you know about it will help

Hi all i recently bought the world of warcraft burning crusade, and it seems like weird. Everytime i alt tab the game to get to thottbot.com to check up on tips, the IE the doesn't seem to load its only when i alt tab back into the game and alt tab out again is the IE there,and i can't type a thing or click a thing once i alt tab,the only thing that works well is when i alt tab to play the game. Secondly its weird once i finish playing the game and log out, my screen doesn't go back to its desktop screen...eg...u see the desktop bg and my computers bla bla....instead there is a blank screen with lots of line in between and grey in color. Some sort of static lines...like when ur graphic card is corrupted or something. This problem never occured in the older world of warcraft only in this expansion pack. Thanks a mil.
I'm running on 128mb Nvidia geforce fx. 1gig ram and 80 gig hd.

Price vs. Performance, should I get an X-Fi, or should I save up a bit more and get a nice pair of surround speakers?

I do want the Logitech Z-5300E 5.1's, because they seem to be excellent speakers for the performance, judging by the reviews on Newegg.

I've got an ancient dell (manufactured with Win98 but I installed XP on it, thats how old it is) and lately I've had problems with the display. When I boot up (or attempt to anyway) I see nothing on the screen. The monitor detects that its plugged into something because if you unplug it, it'll say "check cable". If its plugged in, and the computer is off, the LED light will blink. If it's plugged in and the comp is on, normally it would be solid. Now when I turn it on, it blinks as if the comp is off and I get nothing. All of the hardware is stock (except for a dvd-drive, sound card, and a new hard drive which has been working ever since I got them). I never installed a new graphics card, I use the one that is built into the motherboard's chipset which I assume is now broken. So.. that being said, does anyone have any ideas? Oh and I know its not the monitor because I've tried two others and they both do the same thing.

when i play games my power supply gets hot, i think to hot, its a new comp i built, and dust free. is it that i need a bigger one? or is there a way to turn the fan up?the fan is always running, but not fast enough i think.

my options are a 320GB SATA2 segate baracuda 7000.10 with 16MB of cache. it is 180$
or a250GB SATA2 segate baracuda 7000.10 with 8MB of cache and it costs 140$
or a 250Gb Seagate 7200.1 ES ST3250620NS SATA2 Hard Drive which has 16Mb of cashe but is designed for servers that go 24/7 and is really reliable but costs 175$.
All have a 5 year warenty and use perpendictular technology and are all very high qualitty but the 175$ is slightly higher quality. with my old HDD i managed to use up 130Gb in the first 6 months but i didn't run out of space for another 5 months. i'm only getting a new hdd as my old one died. i am just a kid with no formal income. also being a kid it is the holidays fo another few weeks (its summer down here) so the hdd will be used a lot so i don't want that will die from ovr use and it needs to be vista compatiable ( i think they all are)
