My Dell Dimension PC with XP, now stops at boot up to say some disks are not working. But after a while it lets me boot by pressing F1. Once this stops working, about how much will it cost to fix or should I just buy another PC for $300?

I'm thinking about buying a Dell XPS M1710 and am trying to decide on how much memory I should get. I can get either 2GB or 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM.

The 4GB is almost $3000 more... Is it worth the extra money?

I am looking for a powerful computer that can handle complex 3D graphics programs (rendering, animation.) Do I need the extra memory for this type of work? (I'm willing to shell out the money if it is something I need.)

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 labtop that I haven't had any problems with. Today I went to use it and even though it was plugged into an outlet, it is not charging. I tried connecting the battery wire again, and thinking something was loose, but still no luck. It seems like if I move the battery power cord on the back where it plugs in, eventually it looks like the labtop is charging, but then if I move it slightly, it is not charging.

Any thoughts on how to get it to continously charge? Would electrical tape help keep it in place?

I had 512 mb of ram, so today I bought 1 gig of ram(its compatible) anyways when I was putting both of them in, I accidently put them in backwards. After I turned it on I heard kinda like a snap and then the comp turned off. I also smelled a lil bit of smoke. Anyways I found out I had it backwards, and put it in right. Now though, my keyboard, joystick, mouse, and display is not working. My video card fan is still working, and it still has colors coming out of it, but the display doesn't work. Also I have another video output (have no vid card plugged into it) and when I plugged in my monitor to it, the display still doesn't work (usually if i do this, the display shows but they're horrible graphics) any ideas on whats going on and how to fix it??

The tech support told me it will take up to a 4600+ cpu AMD makes up to a 4000+ right now which would give me a 32% increase over my current 3000+. Im just wondering which FX processors would I be safe with I cant use dual core only up to a 3800 X2 would that be combined core speed of 1900 each core? I have been deliberating over this for a while and I realy dont want to get a new board. please help.
