On my old windows computer i would just go to add/remove programs. My new macbook however doesn't tell me in system preferences. Can someone give me a step by step procedure on how to get there?

Use the uninstaller if the app came with one, otherwise just drag it to the Trash and delete. There will be a few files and folders left over, a few kb worth, if you want to delete those just do a search for the apps name in Spotlight and hover the cursor over the left over file and it will show the path to it. One other thing about emptying Trash, sometimes you'll get a popup saying something like, can't delete app because it's in use. If you know it's not being used, just log off and in then empty Trash.

You just drag it from applications to the trash bin. One of the things that makes OSX a whole lot better than Windows.
Then again, serving time in an Iraqi prison is a whole lot better than Windows.

Some third party apps have a un-installer to use. You could use that for them.
