I have an Acer Aspire 3000 labtop that I haven't had any problems with. Today I went to use it and even though it was plugged into an outlet, it is not charging. I tried connecting the battery wire again, and thinking something was loose, but still no luck. It seems like if I move the battery power cord on the back where it plugs in, eventually it looks like the labtop is charging, but then if I move it slightly, it is not charging.

Any thoughts on how to get it to continously charge? Would electrical tape help keep it in place?

I have a Compaq r3200 with the same problem. There are two options.

1: loop the cable around the screen to apply tension against the power input. (Soon you'll have to re do it)

2: re-solder the plug on the mother board. It is a PAIN IN THE *** but it works. Remember to use a good amount of rosin and clean the leads before you solder. Also don't keep the Iron on the leads to long cuz you can smoke the smaller components.

batteries do not last for ever. if the computer is still under guarantee take it back to where you purchased the computer from and demand a new battery. failing that email support at acer and ask them for a new battery.

a typical battery will only recharge a thousand times. (normal once a day every day use under three years normally.

reading on it sounds more like your problem is due to a damaged power supply cable again contating acer will be your best bet to get an accurate diagnosis and replacement.
if the system is nolonger under guarantee you will most likely have to pay for the parts and shipping.
without spending money on a new charger you could simply put the computer on charge somewhere it is not going to get touched for the entire time it takes to charge the battery.

carelessness by the user (you or anyone having access to the system) is the most likley cause for your problem of a dodgy cable. if say you failed to remove the power cable from the computer prior to packing in a carry case for example or wrapping the cable too tightly in storage can also be the reason for the problem.
remember computeer cables and power cables are sensitve devices and where ever possible cable should be as loosly wound (round) as you can get.
never crease an electric cable as this can snap the internal wires and make the cable effectively useless. requiring you to either make good by using terminal blocks and electrical tape (an nsightly solution) or complete replacement.

in this case if you are any good at electronic repair you could attempt to fix the problem cable yourself by removing the end of the cable that is damaged the re-attaching it further down the cable past the break.
however if this problem arrises fromn the power supply cable being forced into the socket on the computer then the socket may be damaged internally requiring an expert to fix it.
could cost a few pounds to fix but better that than buya new computer if money ios a little tight at the moment.

How previous is the laptop? in case you have been utilising it for awhile the battery may well be dying on you, and you will want a sparkling one. in case you basically have been given it and, extra importantly, it somewhat is nevertheless below guarantee you will desire to call/digital mail Acer and choose what's up with the battery. you would be able to additionally try discharging it each and each of ways, as my neighbor thinks that facilitates each and every now and then.

As this is in the laptop category, I must assume you are referring to a labaratory worktop, or "labtop" for short. "Labtops" are much bigger than laptops and are too heavy to comfortably use on one's lap for any length of time.

I am typing this answer on an Acer laptop, and I can assure you that the battery works great, and the laptop is comfortable to use on the lap for extended periods.

My advice is to ditch your ancient labtop and get yourself a nice light laptop.

in truth there ios a short circuit in either the computer or the power adapter. if you are lucky it could just be the adapter and all it will take is a new power adapter but if the problem in your computer then the problem is way worce. as far as the tape goes then you can use any kind of tape.

The solder connection for the little pin inside the connector on the computer is cracked. Someone will have to take it apart far enough to resolder it.
