The specs from ASUS say that the mobo will only support as high as Sempron 3000+, but that could be because Sempron 3400+ wasn't even on the market when the last BIOS revision was done. Is there another difference between Sempron 3400 and 3000, other than speed?

I would like to take pictures of a person and superimpose them onto another picture. For example, take a picture of field and then take another picture of a person and make it appear as if the person was standing in the field. A free program on the computer that I could download that would be great.

I have a lot of videocassettes that i want to convert to dvd to preserve them, some are from when we were kids; also i have a lot of cassette tapes and i wonder if they too can be converted to a dvd or cd format. my late father and grandmother are featured in these tapes and they contain a lot of family history. I heard that getting an s-video cable might do this, but perhaps if someone knew of a website that could show me step by step how to connect up and use the set-up would be great. I am by no means a computer technician but with simple terminology and instructions I might be able to make this work.

I get conflicting opinions on whether you should turn off your computer every day, especially if you are gone for awhile. Some say just leave it on all the time.

I'm not concerned about the electricity use. So is it better to turn it off or just leave it running?

Does it matter if it's desk top or a lap top? I imagine it's not good to keep lap top on all the time on a power adapter

I've unplugged and replugged it in so mant times my head is spinning, I've taken the battery out and replaced in every scnerio I could think of and now my lappy just doesn't acnowledge the presence of it. This is starting to drive me mad because whenever I unplug it accidentally, I loose everything. I will select the best answer for whomever comes up with the first thing that works. Oh, one more thing, no, this battery was not on the recall list, I checked.

Seems like I have searched every forum on the net for the answer to this one and DELL tech service has not helped either.

Pc was running XP PRO. I plugged in an external USB Hard Drive and it hung up the screen. I did a reboot and now all I get is:

A Disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

The external USB drive is disconnected. There is nothing in any of the CD/DVD/Disk drives. I have tried changing the BIOS to boot from CD with Windows disk in it (so I can do repair) it does not get that far.

I have tried reseting to the BIOS defaults. No difference.
I have tried running DELL's recommend BIOS HD tests - don't work
I have tried reseting the config. No difference.
I have checked the cables to the HD drive. Nothing obvious.

So my questions are:

1. Anything else I try with the BIOS/software?
2. Is this the HD or the motherboard. Which do I replace? I know the obvious thing to do is take the HD and put it in another PC. But I do not have another PC.

I know how to operate computers and programs but when buying one I am clueless. I need to get hubby a simple laptop, he is even less tech saavy than myself. He needs something simple that he can use word and acess email nothing really fancy...maybe put a DVD in that is it. So I searched on Ebay and it breaks down into

Processor Speed
Memory (RAM)
Hard Drive Capacity

what is the minium I should look for? Is getting used a good idea? I really appreciate any help and laymans terms are what works best for this blondie!!

I really need to know if I can use this type of RAM in my computer, My computer was purchased in 2001 and came with 64RAM PC-100 DIMM 100MHZ. I also believe it takes Non-ECC RAM. I want to upgrade to maybe 512. I need to know if I can use PC-133 RAM? And if so, does the MHZ number has to be 100 or will it be something else? I find a lot more PC-133 RAM than I can find PC-100. I just wanna know before I buy something that I cannot use. Should I stick with exactly what came in my computer or is this PC-133 compatible? Please help, I'm a computer dummy. If this helps, I think I have AMD Duron and running Windows ME. Please don't laugh, I know I need a new computer.
