I bought my daughter one about a year ago. I think it was bought out by Gateway awhile back to be part of their lower end line.
I ended up reformatting it <1 week after I got it because of all the software bundled on to it that I did NOT want. The systems disk that they have you burn on start up failed, but the customer service sent me a new one overnight. For what requirements we have for it, I would rate it about a 5/10. Pretty barebones though.

Every emachine PC I ever saw was not very good. Works fine for a while then craps out with major problems. Spend the extra $100 and get a HP or Del.

Emachines have been around for a while. Yes, they are now owned by Gateway.
But I would avoid Emachine. You will find HP and Compaq for just a tiny bit more. Visit Wal-Mart and look for a good deal.

I bought one for my daughter two Christmases ago. It is still running strong and she has absolutely no problems with it, not like my Gateway, which I have had to fix several times.

They have been known as the "cheap computer" since they came out; cheapest components available are used so that price can be as low as possible. You can probably guess what this means--get what ya pay for!!!!

I am a tech who works on them. They have a lot of hardware problems.
I personally wouldn't touch them.
