I really need to know if I can use this type of RAM in my computer, My computer was purchased in 2001 and came with 64RAM PC-100 DIMM 100MHZ. I also believe it takes Non-ECC RAM. I want to upgrade to maybe 512. I need to know if I can use PC-133 RAM? And if so, does the MHZ number has to be 100 or will it be something else? I find a lot more PC-133 RAM than I can find PC-100. I just wanna know before I buy something that I cannot use. Should I stick with exactly what came in my computer or is this PC-133 compatible? Please help, I'm a computer dummy. If this helps, I think I have AMD Duron and running Windows ME. Please don't laugh, I know I need a new computer.

Almost all PC133 ram is backward compatible with pc100. The only thing is that some computers especially pre-buiilt ones are picky. They only accept a certain type of memory. So with a computer that old, it's a toss up. Just be sure you buy a single 512 mb stick and throw out the 64. The extra 64 will actually slow you down.

If you are currently using PC 100 RAM then you can use 133. However you will not utilize the full potential of 133 because of your system limitations. The best bet is always to stick with what you know will work and that would be PC100. If you have four slots you can put a 128Mb in each slot.

I had PC which used PC100 modules. I couldn't use the PC133 on it because the motherboard didn't support them. I don't know if you can find PC100 anymore, anyhow 512Ram on PC100 is such an astronomical value.
