The system has lost your DVD-RW drive. I'd recommend the following registry patch called cdgone.reg. Please see sources.
It would be prudent to back up your registry prior to applying this.
If you're unsure about doing this then i'd try using system restore (which is in the accessories-system tools menu) to get your system back to a time when your drive was working ok..
If this problem has happened after adding a new or secondary drive then your problem may lie elsewhere but if nothing new has been added then the above solutions still stand.

This will only work in XP. Press start. Right click on My computer,
click properties, click hardware, click device manager. Now find the DVD drive on the list and click the + sign. Right click - click update driver - if that doesn't work uninstall it. restart your computer and it will automatically be re-installed. That answer is brilliant because that works on just about any hardware that isn't working - uninstall it and reinstall it!

Probably a silly thing too, but just double-check that when you are burning Audio Cd's that you use a Blank CDR and not a Blank DVD as you can't burn an audio DVD, you probably knew this already, but better to check as sometimes the answer can be as simple as using the wrong recordable media.
