I was just trying to figure out if there was a way to remote into my desktop pc from work. (My home is about 20 miles away from my job). I can remote into my home pc using my laptop fine (using Remote Desktop Connection and typing in my computer name/ip address), but I just want to know if it's possible to do it from such a long distance, and if so, how? Thanks for all inputs.

I'm thinking of buying a wireless router when I get set up in my new apartment, but I don't know what the minimum internet connection speed has to be in order for it to work. Would 256Kbps be enough? Do I need a higher speed?

TalkTalk, so big yet so rubbish. Anyone else tired of poor connections and even poorer customer services in Mumbai?

I want to buy a laptop and I have a desktop that is connected to broadband with and ethernet cord. I want to have the laptop use the same internet wirlessly. Is there anything I should look to buy when purchasing the laptop? I know I need a router, or do I? What is a network card? Do both computers have to have one in order for the wireless connection to work? I would really appreciate an answer put in the simplest of terms. I am very confused. Thank you

I live in Hull, and want to get broadband, but the package offered by Kingston Communications doesn't appeal and is expensive compared to others. Kingston Communications say they don't run a monopoly , but people I have spoken to say you can only get Kingston Communications broadband, because other broadband suppliers say they don't cover the Hull area. Is this correct.

I know there is a site to do that. But I forget what is it.

I remember that the homepage link must be "index_.htm", for some reason.

Someone in my appartment block is stealing my internet - I cannot log into my router in order to set a password for wireless - I have the IP address; however the password does not work. If this has been reset - is there any way that I can restore factory settings?

Many thanks.

it's a d-link dl-784 11a/11g 108mbps router (if that makes a diff)
I went to the 192.168.0.1 thing, entered the pw and username and found the place where it shows the channel... it's a dropdown menu but only has one channel (6) and I can't change it. It keeps d/c there must be something interfering... does anyone know why it only shows one channel? How do I change the channel?

So, just bought myself a laptop, and decided I would convert on over to having a wireless network to use it around the house.

Bought a Linksys Wireless-G (WRT54G)...

Here's the deal...

Plug in everything the same exact way, run their stupid setup, and it asks me if everything is connected correctly.

So, I try connecting through the router ip instead of doing the setup, 192.168.1.1 - and get nothing...

Tried running it dynamically (since I run static) and repairing the network, and no such luck.

I'm aware that my old router's ip is 10.10.10.10, and the new router I'm trying to get to is 192.168.1.1 by default.

If you traceroute to my DSL, you get:
1 * * * Request timed out.
2 3 ms 3 ms 3 ms 192.168.1.1

Which says my DSL is NAT enabled.... using two NAT devices, the DSL is configured to be able to "share' the internet out of the box, so it is on 192.168.1.1 as well.

I'm not sure why it isn't working.

I have a Virgin Media cable connection that has been providing a broadband connection to my home network of 6 PCs. I have recently added a BT ADSL connection that also could provide the broadband connection via a BT Home Hub. I would like to use both WAN connections and load balance them.
A number of designs have been proposed, but all require either detailed configuration of the routing tables (under Windows XP) on each PC or configuration of teh tables on each of the routers (Belkin and Home Hub).
A dual WAN router has also been suggested. It is not clear to me how this would be configured. Do I take a LAN connection of the Belkin router to the WAN port on the Dual Wan router? Will this also work with the Home Hub? I don't want to use the WiFi capabilities available on each of the existing routers.

It signs off and then signs back on all on its own like its supposed to. It seems to only do it when I am not sitting at the computer and its gone idle.

How do I make it stop?

I dont think its my connection.. although it IS roadrunner and I do live in the boonies, so its not impossible I suppose.
