You have a few choices. The easiest way is to get a crossover cable and connect the computers via the ethernet ports. A crossover cable is just like a regular Ethernet cable except that the order of the wires at the end piece are reversed
You can also have both computers connect to the same wireless network.
In either case, you will need to make both computers part of the same "workgroup" in order to see each other and share files. Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". The select the "computer name" tab and change the workgroup name.
To share a folder, right click on the folder, choose properties and then the "sharing" tab and select to share the folder

If both machines have network cards:
Purchase a Cat5 crossover cable from any computer store.
Plug one end in one computer, the other end in the other computer.
Right click on the "My Computer" icon and then click on the properties. Yes I said RIGHT click.
Now in Vista you will see many more options than on XP or 2000. In Vista select the System Protection link. Then select the "Computer Name" tab and verify that both machines have DIFFERENT names, but the same workgroup name.
Once all that is done, enable file and printer sharing by right clicking on the network connection and then properties.
Reboot both machines, and right click on the folders you want to share, then click on Share.
If the share works the folder will have a hand under it.
Vista has a set of shared folders already so you can just move files to the shared folders.

You can connect them with an ethernet cable(I dont think this will be too usefull if you are trying to play games against eachother)
if you have a modem, you can set up a network(which you would already have if they are in the same house and share the internet)
(you can google how to setup a network on your operating system)

Start by removing the filter in your Air Conditioner or Heat Pump. Hold the filter in the air so it is in the shape of a diamond. (This will allow for the best possible wind resistance in the later steps) Step up to your nearest wall and quickly turn around and hurl the filter (like a frisbee). The closer you get to the wall, the better the effect. Your computers should now be connected.

The easiest way is just to use Cross Over Cable however the data access will be slow. I would just use a cheap hub. Plug network cables for each pc into the hub!

use a LAN ethernet connection between each comp or you could join them to a router if you expect you will want to add to the LAN over time.
