My son and my self are going through a router which my Dads Pc is the main PC. I am wired and my son is wireless.I tried both PC's (Mine & my sons) to be both wired with the same result of my sons pc lags while playing a game and I either download or just change pages. His games work fine when I'm not using my pc. I guess my question is, short of getting a seperate Dsl account, is there anything I can do to eliminate the lag problem and keep peace between my son and myself? Thanks

I just got a laptop & am installing the router.
But it says I have to enter a IP address.
And that it was provided by my internet service provider thing.
I think I might know how to do it,
but i don't want to mess it all up.
So can somebody help & tell me how to do it?

Thanx♥

This may very well be a stupid question I know. Here it goes. I have Wifi provided through my apartment complex. I have two computers that I want to "network" or just file share w/o internet. How can I do this? I have a wifi router but I have no modem or internet to plug into it.

Is there a way to connect my router to the wifi internet and share files that way?

Since my isp blocks port 25, i was wondering if anyone knew of a free service that would take connections on a different port like 26 and then redirect it on port 25. If you need a better discription of the answer e-mail me at Jesse_ostrander2000@yahoo.com

I want to creat a LAN with a house about 40 feet away from my house. This is because then we can share the internet. But how do i do this securely without anyone else getting into the LAN? i know its possible as universities with separate campuses do it as they are all linked to the main one.

Also, my computer cannot pick up a wireless internet as i dont have the required cards.

I use BT Broadband through a BT Voyager 2000 Wireless ADSL Modem. From this I run an ethernet cable into a NetGear 5 port Ethernet switch. From the switch I run an ethernet cable into the PC next to it (this PC!). No problems. To connect the kids PC (in another room) I was recommended two HomePlugs. From the 5 port NetGear switch I run an ethernet cable into what looks like a battery charger. It plugs into the mains. In the other room where the 2nd PC is there's another of these battery charger things plugged into the mains. From this runs an ethernet cable into the 2nd PC. The internet speeds are very slow. Any suggestions?
It used to run ok before (same set up) using different HomePlugs (I think the brand was HomeLink). These broke (blew up) and were replaced by the supplier.
I can't use the wireless part of the modem because the 2nd PC/room is too far away. Would a new router (more powerful?) be better? - I could go wireless again which I would prefer.

At present I connect to my broadband provider (talktalk) with the USB modem they provided. I want to do away with the USB modem and go wireless so I can get a econd PC in the home to connect to the internet and also file share. What kind of router do I need? Obviously it needs to be a wireless router (don't want trailing wires) but does it need to be a wireless modem router or can I get away with just a wireless router?

How can i tell if someone is using my wireless network?
Sometimes in the night around 10pm-12am...a little message pops up while i AM connected to my wireless network saying 'you are now connected to the netgear network'
It happens almost every night if i am on at that time....what i want to know is, is someone constantly using my network and going on at that specific time or is it just my wireless network reminding me i'm connected?
There's 2 other PCS in my house which share my network and i know it's not them because one is constantly connected all day and the other is barely used except for some time during the day.
Please shed some light on the situation for me.
P.S: I'm not very good with wireless networking so i wouldn't know how to secure it properly without messing up some settings or other.
