I have a linksys befw11s4 version 4 wireless router, and when I hook it up I loose my internet connection but once I disconnect it and run my modem right into my pc my connection works just fine. Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?

Thanks

Its probably the internet connection type in the router setup.
Is your line DSL then you will probably need to setup PPoE on the router. If its Cable it could be either PPoe or DHCP.

To help you further what is your connection and who supplies?
AT*T DSL will need PPoE Charter Cable uses DHCP etc.
And it could be as simple as just cloning your desktop MAC address into the router.

Bet you have a neighbour's router signal drifting in
You will get a good signal strength but no internet connection
You have isolated correctly that the problem is not your internet connection
Change the channel in the router to anything except the default channel 6
channels 1 and 11 are the next picks
Might also be good to change the ssid from the default linksys to anything. You can add a digit even.
If encryption is on , try turning it off to see if this solves the problem , You can go back later and set it again

Other things to check
- the router should be high and uncluttered
sometimes even just moving it over a foot or so will change things for the better. Although it is line of site a lot of the signal is bounce around

If you are totally stick after ot all you might want to upgrade the firmware on the router
The model of router that you have is a classic
You can upgrade the firnware but that is pretty agressive I would not do this later if need be

main thing to do is to change the channel to to 1 or 11
99% that will fix your problem
