Every now and again, my home computer loses internet access. Sometimes rebooting (cpu, cable modem) works and sometimes, if I leave it alone and come back a few hours later, its working again. Why does this happen? A few months ago, I went online and found a preferred DNS server address for my internet provider (Comcast) and have used that with no problems. But, the disconnect happens when I am using that preferred address or just allowing it to obtain one automatically. Is there a utility to run that will explain what is happening next time it loses connectivity?

My 1st computer is a desktop, and I just got a new laptop. I was curious to how:
1. To share folders
2. To share the printer
3. Is there a way to "mirror" both computers, where regardless of which one I am on, they both look and function the same?
4. Are there any websites that would cover this in depth. I have searched, and have not found exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks,

i have a v.92 dial-up modem and i read somewhere that you can have the modem "hold" the connection so that you can pick up an incoming call, but you must have call waiting. i don't have call waiting so i'm wondering if its just possible to just disconnect the connection automatically

You have been noticing your network connection inexplicably going off and on for some time now, maybe a couple of months, but not to the point of becoming a big problem.

However, this week, the intermittence has escalated. You want to end this nuisance once and for all; for that, write a methodical plan delineating the actions to take.

I have a 4 port router, adding an 8 port switch (all Netgear). How should I connect these? I now have all 4 ports used up on the router, that's why I'm adding the switch to hook up more to network. I tried just removing one of the cables from the router and hooking up to switch, then hooking up router to switch, but that didn't work. Using Netgear FS116 switch.

and my roommate has the router, the password and everything on her computer (basically she sees if I connect my i-pod to my computer )
What is the degree of access to the files on my computer and to monitor what I am browsing on the Internet (can she have access to the passwords on my accounts???) ?
If yes, how can I control that?
