I was told Norton was to much of a hog in my computer to run and I'm using Web root, but I just don't think it's giving me the protection. What are some good ones that wont cost an arm and a leg to get? Thanks

I live in California. I have tried from three different computers, using two different ISP's (1 computer is from work, - t1 line, 2 from home - DSL via Verizon wires with a local ISP). I have tried multiple times over the last several months (so, the computers have been rebooted), with and without fire walls on. I have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox (my 1 st choice). IT seems to me that is a DNS issue, but I don't know. Hence, why I am asking the question. Thanks

i got virus on my computer lately, since my previous anti-virus software activation had expired. To keep it active, i need to enter the product's serial number but i don't have it since that the product had already be installed in my computer from the first time my father bought it. i need to find a new product that is free, especially from hidden charge. my father doesn't want me to download any free software that i'd found on the net bcoz he afraid that the software might take other charges. until now i feel very annoyed with the virus,it kept switching off my comp automatically n all my folders got other similar additional folders (empty) that reappears after i delete it. should i buy a new software? hope somebody could give me some advice or way to solve this prob. 10q!

I just installed a new motherboard with CPU today and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to connect my hard drive and DVD drive to the motherboard with IDE cables.
It keeps recognizing the DVD drive as the primary and then either doesnt recognize the hard drive at all or places it as a slave drive.
I've switched the IDE cables around, I put the SLAVE IDE with the DVD and vice versa with the Hard drive and even tried a different hard drive but it always comes out the same.

Then when I put in the XP installation cd it just says "Boot CD/DVD: " and won't let me type anything

How can I fix this problem?

if someone has AIM that would be a great help to walk me through it btw

I need a good, free, anti-virus cleaner because something is wrong with my internet. My internet sends me end now, send or not send pop-ups whenever I close out. Once I close out it closes EVERY internet page I have up. I DID download firefox (friend recommended it) but I also want to get rid of the problem but I have no idea what it is. Could anyone give me any clues or send me sites that may have a problem to detect the problem, virus, whatever it may be? It'd be most helpful...thank you.

Is there a software or program that can make my work faster? Example i need to type in thousands of product code and product qty everyday using excel. And i will highlight them and sort ascending to find out how many stock is in. Is there a program that can summarise them up so that i can see code A has how many and Code B has how many? Thanks and have a nice day.

It is a cavalry USB 2.0 + SATA hard drive. I have it powered up and connected to my computer through the USB 2.0. I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop. I do not believe there are any external SATA ports.

The hard drive is supposed to be plug n play but my USB does not recognize it. Nothing happens since I have it plugged in. Do I need to have the hard drive plugged into a SATA port and a USB port? So then I would have to buy a external SATA port for my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I recently got a powerful GeFORCE 8700GT Video card. I know practically nothing about installing them, and have the cd, instructions and everything. However the instructions use words like BIOS and crap that we dont know about.

Will someone please walk us through?

I am running on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and my new ipod is telling me I have to be on Mac OS X 10.4.8 or better. I have the latest version of iTunes so that is not the problem. What I'm wondering is if anybody knows where I can get conversion software to load my songs onto my iPod so I don't have to buy the newer operating system?

I bought a 1 gig RAM stick today, and supposedly it was compatible with my motherboard. Took out my 2 256mb RAM sticks. Popped in the 1 gig one, nothing happened. Try a different slot, nothing happened. Popped in all 3 at same time, nothing happened. Then I'm like "*** maybe this 1 gig isn't compatible"

Popped in my ORIGINAL 2 256mb RAM sticks and my computer won't start (everything starts like the fans and stuff, but the beep sound doesn't come that leads you to windows). I smell a burning plastic smell coming from my RAM sticks.

Is my motherboard f**ked?

Computer stats:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E
FSB 400MHZ
DUAL DDR400

The 1 gig ram I bought:
Kingston Technology
1 GB
DDR Memory

Compatible:
400 MHz (PC3200)
333 MHz (PC2700)
266 MHz (PC2100)

Does anybody know of a device that you can plug into an ordinary ethernet cable so that the product the ethernet cable is connected to on the other end can get internet access?
Like I just bought a Playstation 3 and the wireless doesn't seem to be working. I can however connect to the internet with a cable. The cable is unconveniently long though. So I am looking for a device that I can just plug into the ethernet cable so my ps3 will get internet access through a wire which is wireless.
Sorry that my description isn't the best but it's hard to describe.

Thanks!
