I just installed a new motherboard with CPU today and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to connect my hard drive and DVD drive to the motherboard with IDE cables.
It keeps recognizing the DVD drive as the primary and then either doesnt recognize the hard drive at all or places it as a slave drive.
I've switched the IDE cables around, I put the SLAVE IDE with the DVD and vice versa with the Hard drive and even tried a different hard drive but it always comes out the same.

Then when I put in the XP installation cd it just says "Boot CD/DVD: " and won't let me type anything

How can I fix this problem?

if someone has AIM that would be a great help to walk me through it btw

Check to make sure the jumpers are set correctly for both the hard disk and the DVD (master for one, slave for the other). Make sure the master is at the end of the cable, not in the middle. Make sure you have the proper cable for the hardware (don't use an old 40 wire IDE cable on a new drive that requires an 80 wire cable). Those are the only things that could influence the drives being recognized if they both work/

Hi. Double check that the jumpers are set to 'Master' and 'Slave' on the drives.
