I am running on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and my new ipod is telling me I have to be on Mac OS X 10.4.8 or better. I have the latest version of iTunes so that is not the problem. What I'm wondering is if anybody knows where I can get conversion software to load my songs onto my iPod so I don't have to buy the newer operating system?

OS X 10.4.8 (Tiger) may be a free upgrade from Apple's website. It includes the latest version of iTunes needed by your iPod. But, your OS X version is fairly old, so I'm not sure.

Just click on the Blue Apple Icon and choose "Software Update..." and the rest is automatic. It will tell you if you got the Tiger update.

BTW, OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is the new version you have to pay to upgrade to. So, if you must upgrade, this is one to get.

The new iPod only works with OS X 10.4 or newer.

Mac system requirements

* Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
* Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
* iTunes 7.4 or later

Although Apple "may" possibly change this ... or they may not - they don't tend to do legacy support.
