My husband brought home a used computer from his job. When the computer starts up it has the old owners name and a password is required. i can log in as a guest, but i cant do anything, like downloads or add my internet, nothing like that. it runs windows xp professional. Please help me, and if I have to wipe out the hard drive, how do i do that?

I recently got a free Dell laptop. I want to upgrade the processor and the RAM on it, but I can't seem to find the socket type on the processor. The processor it uses now is a 1-GHz/733-MHz Pentium III-M. Anyone know what socket type this is?

System is Packard Bell with Windows XP and AMD Athlon 64 processor, DVD RW R9 drive and DVD drive.
Don't know whether it has any bearing on the problem but my son copied a CD, I wasn't there so I don't know what he did or how he did it but I cannot now copy anything to the DVD RW drive.
I have several TDK DVD's onto which I have copied MS Excel files but all are only at less than 20% capacity and Excel can read the files ok when the disks are in the DVD RW drive.
When I try to copy and paste updated versions of the same files onto any of the DVD's using Explorer copy & paste facilities I get as far as 'write these files to CD' then I get the message 'No CD in drive, put a writeable CD (DVD?) into drive E'.
Even if I swap disks I get the same message and the drive doesn't sound as if it's running.
Genuine help appreciated, further info provided as requested where possible.

My dell has been acting up for about a week or so now. Whenever it is trying to load a video off of youtube or upload a photo onto myspace it will stop half way. My AIM gets booted off and signed back on automatically all the time. We ran a virus scan and they say there is no viruses. We tried a system restore but it said it couldn't do it for unspecified reasons...so we downloaded atl70.dll and it went through, but i could only restore it back to 11/28/2007...and that didn't do anything. we JUST got this cmp like two months ago...its just so annoying cuz the internet will run SO SLOW...then it will stop working and i usually have to x out and do it all over again. what could be wrong with it??? what can i do?

try restarting your computer . Exployer does not close . I drag in down to the bottem of the screen and and carry on without any problems , I wanted to defrag the computer but it would'nt let me,it said another program was interfeing with the hard drive? could you explain what was happering would it be this EXPLOYER errows fault ? thanking you

I have a decent background in programming, although over the last few years its mainly just been VBA and Access. I have very little experience with creating websites and such, but I want to start creating websites which access a database. So which language(s) would u recommend to do this ? The easier the language is to use the better obviously.

Hello, We have a second hand laptop (free) due to the previous owners had ran out of warranty etc...

The laptop works fine, seems like there is nothing wrong, then all of s sudden, the power just goes, its completely random, it can be when your loading windows, or when your an hour or 2 into windows.

Somebody got to help me. What if I order a Dell Inspiron 1420 notebook now, the said preliminary ship date is 12/28/2007 (more than two weeks).
What is the estimated date for me to recieve my order?

What does the preliminary ship date really means? Can somebody elaborate it more clearly. And why has Dell moved its preliminary shipped date more than 2 weeks from now? The preliminary ship date is usually 2 weeks from the date of order. This info can be seen in their site.
