It depends what you're doing. I think Mac OS X is best for desktop use. For a server, I'd be more likely to run Linux (probably Ubuntu). Palm OS is very good for mobile devices, although Apple's recent Mac OS X mobile (as on the iPhone) blows it out of the water.
Windows (XP, Vista, or any other version) has no place on any list of best operating systems.

They are all different, offer different pros and cons, and fill different needs for different people. For example, Gamers have different needs than Podcasters, Graphics Designers, etc.
I personally believe that the best operating system is the one that you LIKE to use and that meets ALL your needs. That is the bottom line.
Try Vista (and XP?) at a a friend's house, the library or a local computer store. Try OS X at the nearest Apple Store. Ask lots of questions, particularly about program and hardware compatibility issues. Download and burn a free Linux Live CD, like Linux Mint, you can try it without installing to your hard drive.
Then, only you can decide which one is best for you.
TIP: You can buy a loaded MAC Mini for about $600, so don't listen when others tell you Apple is more expensive than Windows when MS-Office is included (not a Trial version). Neo-Office is free on OS X.

do not do it. i'm no longer telling you this because this is against the law (perchance a touch) although the folk who placed up an os on torrent or pirate internet sites have tweaked the os to their liking....as an celebration...once you acquire their os...then can remotely change on your webcam without you understanding it or maybe record it....worst ...they could have get properly of entry to for your emails and files. purchase the genuine stuff guy.
