The Recycle Bin icon looks fine on the desktop, or when viewed through a different file manager, but when using Windows Explorer, Recycle Bin has the icon for unknown file types. Anybody know how to fix this?

Does anyone know how to set up a password at the Windows XP startup screen that you can't cancel and get past?

I need to be able to set up a student computer where the students can't use it unless I get them into it first. I don't want them accessing the desptop and messing around with it when I am not here.

The salesman at the store said I should have a sound card already in the hard drive and other people says i have to buy one, depending on the brand of my computer, but no one can tell me where to look on my hard drive.

I am trying to access MS Word stored on the local hard drive of most systems, another words, if you are on my web site and would like to write a document, how would I go about having a "Click" area where the person (assuming they have MS Word) on their system, can click the box, open a new document for writing whatever, save it to their hard drive or flash drive, and return to my web site. My main problem is getting MS Word to open up. Any explainations on how to do this would be great. I have tired .exe statements and so on ..\MSOffice\MSword.exe with no luck so far. Microsoft drives me up a wall!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am thinking of swapping my HP 500dv to a MacBook but I am not sure how Macs are? If you have used both a reg laptop and a mac? Windows and mac, which one do you prefer, why and what are the pros and cons?

I just installed windows xp on my new computer, I went to put my old drive from my old computer in as a second drive (D drive) I started up the computer and a prompt came up before the xp loaded “O”. I didn’t want to go any further because I don’t know what "O" means. Is it OK to go on or will that mess up the “D” drive or XP? Thanks for the help.

I am trying to decide between a computer with an intel Core2 Duo processor @ 2.4GHz and a Pentium D with dual core technology at 3.2GHz. I am getting 2gig of RAM, and the Core2 model comes with DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz and the Pentium D comes with DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz. Will I notice any major difference between the two when runnung AutoCad with mildly complex drawings (multiple x-refs, but generally not 3-D)?

Is the Core2 like getting two 2.4GHz processors? Does the Pentium D with dual core at 3.2GHz mean that it runs at 3.2, but can simultaniously thread two apps through at once? The Core2 has a 1066FSB and the D has a 800FSB. Since the RAM speed is less than both of those, will the FSB speed make any difference? Thanks in advance!

have to move to new place. the new place already has broadband installed so i dont really new one anymore. Hi,

I noticed the "activity" light on my modem was blinking last night when my computer wasn't even plugged in! I got worried, does it mean someone could be trying to hack in or have another computer in the apartment building hooked up somehow to my ISP?

Or is it totally normal? I have never noticed it before, I don't think it does it always.

I just switched to AOL ISP and i have dialup (i will change to broadband soon) but can someone please if u can tell me how to mute my modem. I can't stand the noise it makes when i click on connect. When i had Net Zero when i connected or set up i was able to mute my modem at the sign up screen now i don't know with AOL cause i just turned over on Sat.9/23.
