The Recycle Bin icon looks fine on the desktop, or when viewed through a different file manager, but when using Windows Explorer, Recycle Bin has the icon for unknown file types. Anybody know how to fix this?

Go to the mocrosoft.com site and download a free powertoy called "Tweakui". It allows you to change a lot of settings that you can do (easily) without it. It has a setting within that refresh the icon cache and straightens out icon problems.

humm couple things could be wrong with this one,try this one first.

on your bare desktop right click and get the dropdown menu and choose graphic properties. This is a short cut to the place to change your desktop and screensaver appearances and performance. check to see if you have got your appearance on a theme instead of just colors and classic or xp windows. the different themes I have like nature and divinci and space have different icons for the recycle bin. maybe that is the problem, or maybe you could click the recycle bin and choose the properties option and find out the place to choose a new icon for your recycle bin.
