Does anyone know how to set up a password at the Windows XP startup screen that you can't cancel and get past?

I need to be able to set up a student computer where the students can't use it unless I get them into it first. I don't want them accessing the desptop and messing around with it when I am not here.

Most detailed and most useful answer gets the ten points!

Thanks!

Ok if you goto the start menu / control panel / user accounts...Under "Pick a task" there is an option "change the way users log on and off" Click that , and select "Use the Welcome Screen" . This will start the welcome screen when you boot up the PC so they will have no choice but to either logon with the user name and password or turn the PC off.

Go to the Control Panel
Click on the User icon
You can either add a password to the existing account
And/or set up a second limited user account for the student to use
With a second account that student would have their own desktop and My Documents folder and be unable to see your documents

Create a user account with limited privileges with a password and set it so that user cannot change password. You can then change the password daily so that student need a new password to log on. Advantages is they have their own desktop and any information you want share with them you can put them in the shared documents folder for them to access.

1) Go to start
2) Open control panel
3) User account
4) Go to the account to which you want to have password
5) Creat a password

So now you cannot open this particular account with out password

It would be nice if you creat a new account with password for the students

Click Start > Settings > Control panel > User accounts. You can set passwords on accounts there.

If you set up a user "Start / control panel / users" you can set a password there.

Use a mix of letters & numbers, and no REAL words. That will stump them
