I just installed windows xp on my new computer, I went to put my old drive from my old computer in as a second drive (D drive) I started up the computer and a prompt came up before the xp loaded “O”. I didn’t want to go any further because I don’t know what "O" means. Is it OK to go on or will that mess up the “D” drive or XP? Thanks for the help.

you have to make sure the old drive has the slave jumper set. this is a little plastic doodad that sticks to the pins in the back. the drive itself should have a diagram for where to put it (or remove altogether) so its the slave.

also, press delete before it can start up and make sure your computer knows which is master and slave through bios.

I don't quite understand what's happening.
Are you saying the 1st partition of the second hard drive letter is assigned 'O', instead of D?
You can change the drive letters around in Windows. On my computer, I have multiple partions on 2 drives, and I didn't like how Windows assigned the drive letters to my partitions. Here's how I fixed it:

1) Click Start and select 'Run...'
2) Type in compmgmt.msc and press Enter.
3) Maximize the window and double click 'Storage' in the list box.
4) Double click 'Disk Management(local)' in the list box.
5) Right click on one of the listed drives to change the drive letter.

Your main hard-drive should be on the Primary Master. You can attach your second drive to the Primary Slave and set the jumper to Slave or Cable Select if it is supported.
