21 passengers died when a tour bus went into a deep ravine, a woman and her daughter on a motor-bike knocked by a car and crushed by a lorry, large vehicles crashing into private houses.etc The list goes on, month after month.

What can be done to reduce the sad statistics before we become the victims?

Like they do this thing where you go down to like 5 mph or a little less and keep going.

Today some guy just ran the stop sign...like not even slowing down, it was some old guy(late 80's is my guess). But its people of every age who does this "i'm gonna slow down to make it look like i stopped"

Last Monday (the 27th), I was walking in DC and waiting for the pedestrian light to turn "green". Something to the side caught my eye and at the same time, I saw two cars side by side driving by. When I looked over, I noticed that the pedestrian light had been green for two seconds, and those two cars ran a red light. I was like, "Wait a minute - if I had gone when my light turned green, I might have been hit!" Even today, four days later, I can't help but think what would have happened if I had been hit. Would I have had only minor injuries? Or would I be in the hospital? In a coma? Possiby dead? I tried convincing myself that every year, hundreds (if not thousands) of people get hit by cars, and only a number of those instances are fatal, and many victims gain full (or almost full) recovery. But I need further "consolation". If you or somebody you know got hit by a car, what happened? Any advice would be great - it's keeping me up at night! Thanks.

We were driving up a side street with parking on both sides. We wanted to park in a spot that faced the opposite direction of which we were driving. To turn around, we turned into an alley. We put our car in reverse, but had not even started moving (if we had it was less than 2 inches and we were still in the alley) when we heard a crash behind us. A van driving down the street and a car coming out of the alley on the other side of the street from us crashed. There was a car parked very close to the alley so he likely was not able to see the van coming before it was too late. Also, since the street is narrow with cars parked on sides, the van was driving in the middle of the road. We backed out and parked and got out to talk to the police. The van asked if we could witness that the car had hit her. Police came and told us that it was an easy case. The car was at fault. Then I got a call saying we were being accused of fault. I think it is the car that is accusing us. Is this right?

Is there anywhere in the UK where you can buy whistles that you can use in an emergency e.g. if you go out at night and you're assaulted? My colleagues from my workplace are going on a Christmas night out and I'd like to buy one of these whistles.

My wife was involved in a hit and run accident yesterday. She was making a left turn into a private driveway. She was in the center lane ( 1 lane in each direction, the center is for turning.)waiting for traffic to be clear. Another vehicle came head on toward her (driving in the center lane) at a high rate of speed. She was scared to death there were going to hit her head on! At the last second, the car swerved into oncoming traffic sideswiped her car and kept on going weaving in and out of traffic. They never slowed down. Nobody else around stopped. She was so shaken up, not able to identify car or drivers. We did not call police as we couldn't tell them anything. What would possess someone to behave in such a manner? Anyone ever experienced a similar situation.
