Space saver wheels are proven to be very dangerous.

New car company's must be forced to fit full size spare wheels as standard in their cars.

There is no law in Australia you must have a full size spare wheel in your car

if you can get the consumers to quit complaining about needing more space and wanting all the creature comforts...such as seats that fold completely flat in wagons and vans then sure! i too hate mini-spares. most of the things that we complain about were brought on by consumers that want more and more creature comforts. why is the average alternator now 120 amps or more? some more like 160 amps where 20 years ago they were 90, and 30 years ago it was like 60? creature comforts...when you add 2 complete a/c systems, a dvd player, heated seats and mirrors, a navigation system etc....
i like my 84 model stripped down drag car better than i like my 05...

It's the same in the U.S. I hate the things. My old car had a standard spare but my new on has a "space-saver" tire (I call it a "Barbie" tire). People drive too fast on them and it forces you to hunt for a new tire or a place to fix a tire ASAP without the benefit of shopping around. And you can't rotate it with your other tires.

They do it to save space and weight to meet fuel economy standards.

if you travel in uninhabited areas ,(like much of Australia)
you should carry a full sized spare tire..
that responsibility is on the driver..
most cars in America never leave the suburbs..
and the space saver is more than adequate for that use..
so your logic is flawed ...
.you expect the government to protect you, from yourself......
that is silly... and counter productive...
just like government mpg standards that force the use of space saver tires...as well as small narrow tires you run on

With cars being built the way they are today there is no room for the full size spare, unless you want to take away from the trunk room

A space saver spair tire works for me.Your question makes little sence. These spair tires are safe if used till you get the other tire repaired.
