21 passengers died when a tour bus went into a deep ravine, a woman and her daughter on a motor-bike knocked by a car and crushed by a lorry, large vehicles crashing into private houses.etc The list goes on, month after month.

What can be done to reduce the sad statistics before we become the victims?

EDIT::
Thanks. Stricter training,rules and fines should be adopted before and after a person gets his licence. Govts should double their efforts and funds to ensure more traffic patrols to catch errant or speeding drivers, both in the countryside and developed areas.
There should be more road-safety campaigns to bring about awareness as far too many road users are getting complacent.

START THE DRIVER ED TRAINING AT 16 BUT INSTEAD OF GETTING YOUR LICENSE IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS,

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE 200 HOURS OF DRIVING, SAFETY AND ROAD TRAINING.

AFTER YOU ARE FINISHED THE INSTRUCTOR WILL DECIDE IF YOU ARE READY TO DRIVE.

AFTER YOU ARE CERTIFIED TO DRIVE, YOU ARE ONLY LIMITED TO A CERTAIN TIME TO DRIVE.

ANY VIOLATIONS TO THE ABOVE RULES, YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR LICENSE FOR 6 MONTHS.

Yes there is far too many road accidents which kill probably 1000s of people every year. I read somewhere that at least one person dies every two days because of a road crash, like the ones you listed.
I don't think there is much that can be done to stop anymore victims, some people drive way too fast through villages, which is scary for local on a walk or simply children playing out. More should be done to make sure people are sticking to certain speed limits, more speed cameras, more police on watch out. Most deaths are caused by speeding as well.

Yes, there are too many young or poorly-trained drivers on the roads.

Yes, there are too many old or incapable drivers on the roads.

Yes, there are too many stupid or distracted drivers on the roads.

What can be done?
Perhaps stricter requirements for licenses. Tougher written test. Raise the minimum driving age is 18. Drivers should have to take classes in city traffic, on country roads, on highways, in varying weather conditions and at night before being let loose on the roads. Put new drivers on probation where for the first two years, any traffic infraction sends them back to driving school. Maybe stiffer penalties for infractions - perhaps impounding the car of those guilty of 'distracted driving.'

Young Drivers, there are some good younger drivers, it's a shame that the good ones have to pay the price with the laws on young drivers because of all the BAD ones.

Badly trained and NO training at all drivers! There are to many and the rest of us have to watch out for them.
