the car was fine one minute and the next it started sqeaking and would no longer accelerate. It smelt like burnt rubber and then the smoke started coming from the hood. i started the engine about 20 minutes later and it still sounded like it was working really hard and it began once again to smell like burnt rubber.

the cambelt has broken on my 1989 bmw 318i. i have taken the cylinder head off and all the valves are currently clear of the path of the pistons. i cannot turn the cam pully by hand, and im wondering if the cam, being so stiff could have stopped spinning immediatley when the belt broke? ( at about 1500-2000 revs.)
also, there is no markings on the carbon deposits on the pistons or valves. could i have damaged the valves without leaving any obvious signs?
any good input would be greatly appreciated!

I drive a 94 e420 and every morning and afternoon when I start the car the power steering groans for a while, the problem is getting worse, and seems to be bad when it's cold out. Do I have air in my power steerin system? or is my fluid partially freezing? Either way I guess I'll have to change the fluid, if I do and there is air in the system do I need to do any other repair to prevent air from getting in again?

- I know there is a lv.1 leak out of the pump, a small seal in the middle of the part has a hairline leak, I was just going to leave it there because it's so minor, could this be my problem?

what can I do to make it pass or at least find out what it needs so it will pass. I don't want to just start replacing and repairing everything. I live in Nevada.

I have had my 98 Chrysler T&C for 6 months now, and have gone through 3 sets of tires on the front end due to excessive wear on the inside and outside shoulders of the tires. This is the first vehicle that I've owned that has traction control. Could it be I'm not used to traction control, or that I'm too used to driving little cars and not big vans? Or could it actually be a REAL problem with something on my van, because it does pull to the left but I have never really paid attention until now (steel showing on inside of tires, and a nail in one that I don't want to take out for fear of a flat).

Just after I had my oil changed at a quick lube garage, my Element (41,000 miles) began to make a rapid thumping or tapping noise when stopped at traffic lights. It goes away in Park or Neutral, but it's pretty loud in the passenger compartment. It sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment.

Any ideas on what may be causing it? (Please let me know why you think so, too.)

I am asking here before I go to dealership but i think I just need to get my brakes done and maybe get something else replaced. Okay recently I put 18" rims on my car, i think this also is an adding effect. 2 months after the rims my breaks began to squeal loudly when I hit breaks, I am guessing that I need to get some more break pads. but also I noticed a slight rotating sound when driving comming from my wheels. I cant tell exactly what it is but I know it cant be good lol. The break light in my Cadillac has also recently come on so I need to do something ASAP. any suggestions? I am going to dealership tomorrow to get something done but i know if I dont tell them to look at something, they woulnt.

I went about a block from my home to the local bank on returning and getting out of the van I noticed a "hissing" sound coming from beneath the van. There was steam coming from under the van not where the radatior is located. While driving the dashboard didn't light up of gave me any indication that the van was overheated. I put antifreeze and water in the radaitor but the liquid just leaked right back out from the underneath the raditor. I had my van checked a few months because I was having to constantly refill the radiator. I was told there was not a leak in the raditor but yet the thing kept losing fluid. It was not leaking into any other part of the engie I was told. My husband is deployed and I would like to know something about this issue before having to pay another mechanic . PLEASE HELP!!!! It is leaking from the undercarriage not anywhere near the raditor.

a friend had her car emission tested and her gas cap failed, they charged her $18 for a new gas cap and $30 labor to install the new gas cap, she complained but the $30 is the minimum labor charge they charge everybody, she also paid $45 for the emission test, $30 to screw on a gas cap?

i have a 2005 silverado 4.3 W/T and one day the warning chime just stoped working! its kind of an inconvience because i have the information screen on the dash that warns me of problems with the truck but i dont pay attention to it when im driving and the chime gets my attention! could it possibly be a blown fuse?

I have a 1991 gmc jimmy s15 4.3l 4whd 4d, and when i start it it wants sounds like it wants to die and it does that the whole time im driving and it has died a couple of times, If i change the rotor and distrubitor cap will this fix it?
