I have had my 98 Chrysler T&C for 6 months now, and have gone through 3 sets of tires on the front end due to excessive wear on the inside and outside shoulders of the tires. This is the first vehicle that I've owned that has traction control. Could it be I'm not used to traction control, or that I'm too used to driving little cars and not big vans? Or could it actually be a REAL problem with something on my van, because it does pull to the left but I have never really paid attention until now (steel showing on inside of tires, and a nail in one that I don't want to take out for fear of a flat).

You definitely need wheel alignment and proper inflate your tires. You may be turning too fast or turning while the car is not in motion. Driving too fast and sudden braking can also wear out your tires. You have a front wheel drive vehicle, your front struts may be need to be replaced as well. You may want to take your car to someone does not sell tires, i.e. alignment specialist; the guy selling you 3 sets of new tires is not telling what you really need. You need to get rid of him even it is your own brother.

Wear on both shoulders of a tire is a sign of not enough air pressure. Check the tire pressure frequently...especially that one with the nail in it.

We had a Dodge Caravan when I was little and even at max tire pressure, it would wear the inside and outside shoulders of the front tires. The section width of the recommended tire size was just too narrow to hold up the van without putting too much weight on the tire shoulders. I suggested a wider tire on the replacements and it did the trick....the wider tires wore evenly. Have the tire shop help you pick a tire size that's about 10-20mm wider but the same height as the stock size.

You are seriously in need of a wheel alignment. That is shown by the uneven tread wear. Take it to an alignment shop and let them do it. You have reached the steel belt. It is time for another set of tires. But after an alignment, they will last much longer as the whole tread is in contact with the road instead of the corner. Steering and handling will improve immensely as well.
You may have worn ball joints as well. The alignment shop will be able to check that as well.
Some stuff that wears out.

You definetly need an alignment. It doesn't matter how many sets of tires you buy, until you get the alignment the tread in the tire starts to seperate from the inside and it makes the tires unrepairable and you have no other choice but to replace them.
Trust me, been there and done that. Hope that helps.

also, u need to keep rotating your tyres, this also can help increasing the life of the tyre. front tyres generally wear out faster for a FWD car
