The rotor and distributor cap will only fix it if they are causing it. You really should get it diagnosed, as a diagnosis and one part will always be cheaper than 6 parts and no diagnosis. Many things can cause the Jimmy to stall, not just the cap and rotor, but also the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, fuel pump shorting out, the list goes on, but you should have it checked so you don't waste money throwing parts at it. LOL at anyone who says a cam or crank sensor will not stall a car out. When it gets hot, it loses resistance capabilities, cuts spark and injector pulse, and allows the car to restart after it cools. Stay away from my car SagarK, you don't have a runability clue if you think a cam or crank sensor will not cause a stalling issue.

Sounds more like a vacuum leak. What this actually means is that there is a place where extra air is getting into the air intake system and is causing a to lean, that is to much air, not enough fuel, problem. That will cause an engine to want to, or will, die at any time. While what you describe could be affected by the rotor and cap, a rough idle usually goes with it as well as engine stall at highway speed. Check for vacuum leaks first. The cap and rotor replacement is good maintenance, but to much air is also an insidious, common, but hard to find problem that is probably the cause of your problem.
The other issues named by others tend to cause hard starting, rough idle, start up failure, hesitation, poor economy, and loss of power. If I read you correctly, there are times when the engine performs quite well, but at times wants to die. If this is the true case, look for the air leak because if what I suspect is true, the times when all seems well, the leak is either no longer a circuit in use, or the sheer volume of incoming air for highway cruise over whelms the leak making it a non-issue. That would rule out the other ideas presented.

Will it fix it? Who knows. It would be better to find out what is wrong first, and then change those parts. When was the last time that you had it tuned up and changed the plugs?

Take the truck in and have it checked out, then you will know what needs to be replaced. There are a lot of different parts failures that could give you the same indications

good luck with the fix.

a camshaft position and crakshaft position sensor will not cause a car to stall, it will cause a NO START condition. Does it take a couple cranks to start? I'd tune it up, fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap, Then fuel system cleaner, u should be FINE !

Not necessarily. What you describe could be electrical or fuel related.
Fuel wise, change your fuel filter first. Electrical wise, cap and rotor is good to start off with but do the plugs and wires at the same time.
See if that helps.

various thing's could be the problem. it could need just a simple tune up plug's rotor cap and distributor cap. but you don't say if your check/service engine lite is on. if not, try the tune up. if the light is on it means there's an elec problem, i.e. tps, maf, map, cps. good luck.
