I have a 04 civic LX, bought it new, now has 280,000 miles on it (yes I drive alot) anyhow it's started overheating recently, strangely though. It only heats up when I'm stopped, and is fine at 20+ miles an hour, even 110mph, didn't make it warm. I know what you're thinking...it's the fans, but they both come on when they should, they just can't keep up with the heat. I haven't tried the thermo yet, but I don't think it could be the thermostat, I was thinking water pump, but I can't check it for leaks because it's encased in a housing and run by the timing belt. I just don't want to go through the trouble of replacing the t-belt and water pump if that's not the prob. any help would be appreciated, I haven't got a lot of money so a mechanic is hard to come by:)

I own a VW Golf if this helps, and I haven't changed the original cam belt in the 5 1/2 years I've had it from new.

Was wondering if there was any early symptoms I might look out for which could give me early warning that the cam belt / waterpump / tensioners/rollers ect is struggling and needs changing. (Better that than a snapped belt and bent valves).

Thanks.

I realise some cam belts can snap without any apparent warning (or so I'm told).

Thanks. (I've got to go to sleep now but hope I might find a good answer or two in the morning)

I recently replaced my intake manifold gasket. I forgot to mark the distributor when I removed it (well I didn't know you had to, and my dad (he was helping me, he's the certified mechanic, an HVAC mechanic by profession) forgot about it) and so the timing got messed up. I took the spark plug 1 out of its hole, felt for compression, and continued turning the crankshaft to TDC (which was only a very little more). That got the my truck to start but it threw P1345 SGC (Cam Position) Sensor Circuit Malfunction/ Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation as well as P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire and finally P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire detected all at once. After reseting the computer using my AutoTap the P1345 went away but the other two stayed. Oh, the engine was also ROUGH idlling, it was practically shaking back and fourth and it was hard to start. So I removed the hold down bolt for the distributor, turned it clockwise a tooth or two, bolted it back down.

Im 17 and today i got into my first car wreck. My whole bumper came off, (but it was already half way but dad fixed it) The man i hit isnt going to call the insurance company. I think i hit him because my brakes dont work good. We wasnt even going fast. I was close to him but i was far enough where I could push my brakes hard and not hit him. But when i pushed my brakes they made some kind of noise and the car kept going and hit him. Before this accident i told my dad they needed to be changed, but he didnt do it.So when i call him to tell him what happened he started cursing and fussing at me talking about i ride on people a** and he told me about that. So i told him it was the brakes and i told him they needed changing. The man damage wasnt that bad his bumper just came back a little and his front bumper shifted down just a little on one side. So now he is all mad (he has a anger problem and he thinks hes all was right)and i feel bad because i did this. what can i do th feel better

I have an 89 Porsche 944 and it won't start.
The spark plugs are filled with black carbon build up. I was thinking it had something to do with the fuel filter or fuel pump, because it sounds like it's not getting any gas to the engine.

But with the spark plugs being so black .... I started to think otherwise.

BTW where do I find the fuel filter on a Porsche??

Two part Q:

I just bought the car and i cant seem to find a parts catalog anywhere online for it. I would like to restore it but everything i find just skips the late 70's and 80's.

The other thing is it has the bent glass window in the back. I know its rare but how rare?

i have a bike lock/holder that i need to drill into my truck bed, but i don't have acess to it from the bottom to lock it with a nut. some people have suggested i use self tapping scews, tek screws, since the truck bed's metal isnt too thick, but i need this to be very strong to hold a 35-40 lb bike up right. any suggestions? thanks

My Corolla holds 3.7 qt according to the owners manual. I put in that much and now when I check the dipstick it shows high. It's about an inch above the full mark. Will this cause engine problems?

when i get around 45-50 mph the air from outside starts coming through my vents in my car. what is broken in my dash? is there an easy way to repair it without going to a mechanic. when i push the recycle button on my car it doesnt work when the a/c fan is off so that doesn't help either.

So I've been having problems getting my 77 B200 318 automatic to start.

It used to be that I would turn the key and hear a click (relay I suppose) about 5 or 6 times, then the starter would start strong, or sometimes sound like it was grinding and going out.

Then, NOTHING -- Only the click, no starting at all.

It started strong by jumping the starter wires with screwdriver.

Then, I attempted to start it by crossing the ignition relay, again, starts beautifully. One thing I noticed, was that since I jumped the relay, it stopped clicking entirely.

I put in a new relay, and as the dope I am, didn't mount it to the firewall before attempting to turn the key, and nothing happened.

Ever since the relay stopped clicking, my reverse lights are ALWAYS ON -- in park AND drive.

summary::

New ignition switch, new battery, new (possibly dead) relay, starts fine when the relay is crossed, does not start otherwise (not even a relay click), reverse lights constantly on.

Thanks a bunch!

Its for a stock 1972 Pontiac Lemans with a stock 350 pontiac motor (rebuilt), 4 barrel stock carb, "stock style" HEI unit (car did originally have a points type distributor from the factory), and right now the stock 63 amp alternator. Car does not have air conditioning or rear window defogger (each or both of these options would require a higher amp alternator to begin with like an 80 or a 100 amp).

It's a 2004 cavalier.
When I try to start it it makes a really fast clicking noise as if the car isn't even attempting to ignite the engine.

The electronic dash flashes quickly when I try to start it, and the engine won't turn over.

When I stop cranking it makes a sound like the car has just turned on and all my gauges go back to normal.

It is not the battery.
